@rugk @Heliograph @mcc
So who was the rebound effect named after?
Must be before my time because I've never heard of that artist.
@mansr fair enough. Yes that is what I was referring to. The word sound of "Meta Streisand" as the second order Streisand effect reminded me of "Mecha Streisand" from South Park, which was itself (I think) a reference to the Streisand effect and again has outlived the fame of the referent.
(Edit no the episode was not a reference I checked and my memory is wrong, the episode was 5 years before the lawsuit)
@mcc Funnily enough, I first heard of Barbra Streisand thanks to My Little Pony. In fact, although I heard of the Streisand Effect a few years ago, I'm just now finding out it predates this 2011 episode. I thought it was a more recent thing. Then again, I'm not a zoomer anyway.
@mcc I was just thinking the other day about how Streisand's own Streisand Effect will never be topped because hers will be remembered every time someone else does one for a very long time.
It's also lolsob funny how quaint hers was in hindsight, for all that.
@mcc Just to correct you, it's Barbra.
In any case, I have a lucky partner who's actually heard of both her and the term.
'It's the year 13499, the only two remembered figures from the ~2000's are Jesus and Barbara Streisand.'
I used to have a few Barbara Streisand albums. Helluva voice. I also liked a guy MOST have no idea about: Paul Williams who was also an actor, had an album with a song I loved that he sang. I found about 6 songs I enjoyed listening to him sing. My son has all of those albums now, but check him out if you have any interest at all. He is quite short stature-wise.
naw. He's 43. No freaking him out.
Welp, I'm ancient I guess.
