I keep getting these YouTube videos about "my neat trick" for remembering which hiragana makes what sound and they seem silly to me.

Maybe it's because I have so much distance from my first lessons in Japanese but the way to learn your hiragana is to use your hiragana. Read a bunch. Write a bunch. Read out loud.

But they're also silly because there's no actual system. Thinking that there's a system will lead to applying the rules to the wrong characters.

What was billed as men "colliding on bike path" turns out to be, of course, a #cyclist getting run over by someone riding an illegal 50 mph electric scooter on a #bike path.

Stuff like this always gets used to "crack down" on e-bikes but when you dig even a little you consistently find that the "e-bike" in question is really a moped that's already illegal.

So my systems recently updated to rsync 3.4.3, and as soon as that happened my backup system - which does incremental backups using multiple --compare-dest= arguments - started to fail on anything but a full backup.

Revert to 3.4.1 and it works.

So I go look at the source in GitHub to see what might have changed, because there doesn't seem to be anything relevant in the changelog.

Since 3.4.1, 36 commits by "tridge and claude"

Oh for fuck's sakes.

Hooray - hit my target average speed of 15 mph on real roads with traffic lights, stop signs and cars (and one gravel segment).

After waiting 6 weeks for a replacement wiring harness to fix my lawn mower I discovered 2 things:

The replacement harness is not a match to the original (the connectors at the bottom are different), and to install it you need to solder at least one connection together (and I don't own a soldering iron).

In the end just disassembling, reseating and reassembling the existing harness appears to have fixed it.

Reviewers in two groups were given identical resumes for Emily Clarke and James Clarke and told they had used AI. Emily's was 2x as likely to raise doubts about competence. "She can't even write a CV herself." But James "just needed a bit of help."
