good morning
good morning
current status: traveling towards other nerds at velocities in excess of 250 km/h
btw, earlier there was an announcement that a group of chess players is on the train (one of whom was speaking, evidently), either on the way to or from some tournament (I forget the details), and anyone is welcome to come visit carriage 7 for a match :D
(I feel like this has happened before – it might well be an annual tournament, and I would've taken basically the same train on the same day up north in some previous years. but apparently I didn't post about it last time)
okay, I think they must be en route to this tournament: https://www.deutsche-schachjugend.de/termine/2025/dvm-u20w/ (i.e., youth championships for female participants up to 20 years old)
the date matches, the location matches the direction of this train (northwards), and it matches what I seem to remember from the announcement ^^
“what is everyone talking about, it’s not that slippery”
*walks a few steps further*
“oh holy shit”

I did my nails pretty
I didn’t even have time to announce my talks on here 😭 I only got the slides ready+translated+uploaded at the last minute 😅
but anyway!
here are the slides for the Wikidata introduction I did at 3:15pm in the Free Knowledge Habitat: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Free_Knowledge_Habitat_39c3_(2025)_-_Wikidata_Introduction_EN.pdf
if you want to know more about Wikidata, Andrew McAllister and I are doing an Intro to SPARQL and Wikidata Query Service at 8:30pm today, also in the Free Knowledge Habitat: https://pretalx.wikimedia.de/39c3-2025/talk/RNWUH8/
The WIkidata Query Service (WDQS) is one of the main services to get data from Wikidata. In this workshop we'll explore the SPARQL query language that allows us to access data as well as the WDQS UI, a helpful UI in which we can write and run queries. The goal is that you'll be able to write your own queries and explore Wikidata's data by the end of the session.
I have a DECT now btw, LUWE (5893) ^^
time from tooting my DECT number to receiving a call: approx. ten seconds

good morning #39c3!
I should try to get a bit more sleep tonight tho
Stolperfallen--;

I have the nail polish with me btw, if anyone else would like to have their nails painted
) https://pretalx.wikimedia.de/39c3-2025/talk/VTELBK/
(I don't quite remember if doing this (only) in German was an intentional decision back whenever I added this to the CfP… would a lot of people be interested in an English version of Wikidata Live Querying at some later time, if we find space in the schedule? ^^)
I think the live querying workshop went fairly well
and I also ended up allocating the https://w.wiki/HELP short URL during it 😭 we probably could’ve used that for something more useful. oh well lol

if @DorkusShorkus was taller or more athletic, I wouldn’t have had to crane my back+neck down so much in order to talk into the microphone while typing 😤
some queries from the live querying session:
• Swahili verb lexemes, with English sense glosses if available: https://w.wiki/HEKo
• translations of a certain word based on lexemes: https://w.wiki/HEKx
• statements of the Swahili item: https://w.wiki/HELP

I forgot to announce my session in advance again 😅 but enough people were still interested in the WDQS introduction in German!
some of our queries:
• items founded by Jimmy Wales or Larry Sanger (I don’t endorse etc. etc.): https://w.wiki/HEe3
• events in series organized by CCCV: https://w.wiki/HEeS
• CCC-affiliated events (more complicated version of the above): https://w.wiki/HEfA
• how many other item-type statements the #39c3 item has: https://w.wiki/HEex
• awards received by Albert Einstein: https://w.wiki/HEfL
• ancestors of Louis XIV: https://w.wiki/HEg8

this is a confirmation that an item ID, combined with the term “Qid” (according to the courier), is enough for delivery :3
by popular demand*, I’m doing another Wikidata introduction tomorrow! 10:45 AM, at the Free Knowledge Habitat: https://pretalx.wikimedia.de/39c3-2025/talk/YLBHLH/
* nobody explicitly asked for it, but the Wikidata introductions on day 1 were quite well attended (both the German and English edition), so I hope enough people will be interested, around this early in the morning, and see this announcement (or the schedule entry) in time 😅
RE: https://wikis.world/@LucasWerkmeister/115805355771091840
there was in fact demand for another Wikidata introduction, our workshop area was pretty full again \o/
up next (in 2 minutes ^^) in the Free Knowledge Habitat (next to the escalators on the first floor, opposite hall X): A whirlwind tour through the land of Wikidata-powered apps! https://events.ccc.de/congress/2025/hub/en/event/detail/a-whirlwind-tour-through-the-land-of-wikidata-powe
Wikidata's data is used in thousands of projects and often we don't realize what our work makes possible. In this session we will take a tour through some of the great applications and services that have been built on top of Wikidata's data. Join ...
TIL: available angel kitchen vouchers per meal are apparently limited, I can't generate a lunch voucher anymore despite having enough hours
