We are currently fighting against a DDoS attack against our service and our status page. We are analyzing network traffic with the help of our ISP at the moment and let you know once we have updates to share.
Once again, we are fighting with an ongoing DoS attack. We are very sorry for the disruption of the service and hope to bring the service back online soon.
@Codeberg But my Advent of Code post! šŸ˜€
Seriously, good luck sorting it and good wishes. Thank you for what you're doing.

@RogerBW I too noticed when I was unable to push AOC ;)

I hope you get it fixed without too much trouble... Thanks a lot for your great platform!

@Codeberg

@RogerBW @Codeberg Seriously, what they need is good eng. talent. DDoS is no rocket science these days.

These are just excuses of slowing things down and not fixing bugs for years!

@atiq negative reinforcement? 😬

@Codeberg

#hugops to everyone at Codeberg having to deal with this šŸ˜•

@Codeberg Good luck with the disruption! It's really evil to attack a free and important service like yours.
@Codeberg I guessed when a git push failed. Looks like a bad one as the website is down too. Thank you to the team & good luck

@Codeberg

Sending šŸ”‹šŸ”‹šŸ”‹ to reinforce šŸ’Ŗ

@Codeberg it is so sad to see that all the open-source forges are struggling against bad actors with much larger resources and greedy companies with no respect for the services they crawl... sourcehut and codeberg are the future of open source communities in my opinion! we need to find some real solutions to these problems, as the people doing the attack have microsoft level of funding and no care for the users.

hang in there and thanks for your dedication!

@Codeberg good luck, bro, i belive you!
@Codeberg we're with you for the cause, not the 99,99999999 uptime metrics ā™„ļø
Lots of love and many thanks for your work, much appreciated!
@Codeberg No need to apologise, we're on the same side.

@Codeberg oh my... hopefully you find a solution. Thank you for all the work ā¤ļø

#hugops

@Codeberg Good luck.

I took the opportunity to reinforce my thanks with a donation.

@Codeberg I hope you can also find out who’s behind this attack.

@Codeberg

@Codeberg Do you know which entities are behind these attacks?
@Codeberg I hope federation lands to Gitea (and forks) soon, so we all get less dependent on any particular forge running and also you become a less attractive target for attackers so you can enjoy the upcomming Christmas time instead of deadling with this crap.
@Codeberg
I bet it's a set of scraping bots trying to read everything at once to feed to a LLM.

@MeiLin @Codeberg Another possibility is security bots run by "researchers" looking for an exploit to... well... exploit, either with malicious code or to demand a bug bounty payout.

One of my mates has more problems with those than LLM scrapers, and those bots are just as badly behaved, too.

@dragonarchitect @Codeberg
Considering the number of supply side attacks recently...

And that we actually know off...

@Codeberg These people… šŸ˜’
@Codeberg do you guys need any help? I've dealt with these things for 30 years.
@Codeberg oof, good luck to you all <3
@Codeberg  hopefully it will be again up as normal. Just wanted to push but git hangs and now I know why
@Codeberg
Good luck and thanks for the awesome service. Some downtime is fine, expecting 100% uptime from any online service is not reasonable. ♄♄♄♄♄
@Codeberg Really? For me it works blazingly fast. šŸ¤”
@Codeberg thank you for keeping up the fight. I just don't understand why a nonprofit keeps coming under attack.
@bhaugland @Codeberg Codeberg is under attack *because* it is a nonprofit. Monopolists fear we'll make them obsolete, and I sure fucking hope so.
@Codeberg ā¤ļø Thanks for all your efforts!
@Codeberg ā¤ļøšŸ«‚

@Codeberg

Good luck, what you do is amazing! šŸ’Ŗ

I guess in the long term federating Forgejo will help reduce the effectiveness of attacks?

@Codeberg Thanks for the amazing service and good luck on the fight against whoever is doing that.
@Codeberg keep up the fight! I wonder if thats a DDoS or an AI experiment gone wrong.
@Codeberg what is this level of unemployment that you are ddos'ing a non-profit

@Codeberg big tech + right.
Any way, this is a clear sign that you are doing something "substantial"!

Keep making (bigtech + right) angry!

@Codeberg when will commit links under pull requests start working?

Why are basic features still broken?

Here's example page: https://codeberg.org/atiq/illumos/pulls/1/commits

Try clicking each of the commits it will say 404 not found!!

illumos

Illumos/OpenSolaris

@Codeberg
i hope you can figure it out.

some people are so idiotic that they see helpful non-profits such as arch linux and codeberg as potential ddos victims.

this is so disappointing to see.

Good luck! In the long run, there is only one serious defense against DDoS and other attacks: federation. I’m really looking forward to @forgejo
supporting federation for repository forks and pull requests.
