Kind and cherished FOSS and computing freedom advocate @sleepyowl (Joyce Ng) has gone missing and there is reason to fear she may have been apprehended by authorities, possibly likely even for being framed. Nobody has been able to reach her and many of us are worried for her safety.

Joyce does work on verifiable open source hardware. She also has been an activist pushing against the rise of far-right Christian nationalism globally but especially in Singapore. Because of this and her identity, she has people who would like to see bad things happen to her.

Probably for this reason, she may have been misidentified by Five Eyes as being a threat actor. Joyce wrote about this concern in November, posting a threatening screenshot where she was tipped off https://bitowl.online/about

Please spread this wide. Hopefully this is a false alarm but Joyce is a kind-hearted person who fights for human rights and computing freedom; many of us are worried for her safety.

A few of us were arrested on the evening of 16 March, and all but one person was released on bail on the 18th. I am doing alright myself, although some were traumatized by the experience. Time to have some fun programming.

I've been playing around with #odinlang and am really liking it. It's fun just checking out the comments in the Odin Source code for examples. This was how I learned #Smalltalk and it really does help you really learn to use a language.

Odin's make system reminds me of Pascal. No separate make file just compile the file with the main function in it and the compiler figures out what other files need be compiled.

Go is nice but it feels to corporate.

@paco we as a society have been in serious "cognitave debt" for decades. Computering became a shit sundae of frameworks on top of containers within VMs floating in a cloudy cluster sauce of somebody else's servers that no single person knows WTF made this all work.

Then #LLM based #GenAI came along and we are not just in debt we are now Cognitively Bankrupt. I thought we hit rock bottom when web designers started saying they needed 32GiB to build their fekkin' websites but then all...this...came around and we started telling Rube Goldberg to hold our beer as we cooked the planet to make computers be bad at math and make memes and tacky art and write bad code and invent new and incurable injection vulnerabilities.

Inventing snappy new terms for shitty old problems is just another sign of how things are spiralling faater and further down the toilet TBH.

I'm not bitter I'm just a cynical old Gen X man. Whatever I don't care
