Thank you. Most people don't know this.
And fuck the Boy Scouts, too. Not literally, of course. "Father, when Jesus said, 'let the little children come up to me', that's not what he was talking about!"
Probably the girl scouts, too. I don't know enough about them.
@Uair @jeffowski Erm, ackshually, they're called the Scouts of America! Get woked, nurd!

Fuck the Salvation Army and their rabidly queerphobic bullshit
10% of all money donated to the #Salvationarmy in the United Kingdom goes to 'Administration'.
Wheras the RSPCA only uses 1% for this
Citation needed?
I always believed this, but I paused to fact check and the Salvation Army's website seems to think that's not the case:

I was about to send this to my christian friend (mostly to needle /
him,) but I wanted to have my facts in hand before I do that. Do you have references for this?
I know their bible says to do that, but I also know most christians are bad at following their bible so they are eating cheeseburgers, shrimp, and aren't actually wishing death on homosexuals.
@LexPendragon @jeffowski There's definitely a complex and harmful history there, and they appear to have little interest in addressing it.

Whether or not they're any better nowadays, they definitely have a lot to answer for and they have yet to do so to any satisfactory degree.

Would-be donors should consider whether "doing the most good" might mean supporting one of the many other effective and reputable charities that provide for the needy without engaging in anti-gay beliefs, policies, or political activities.
@Rob_T_Firefly I don't give to them regardless, because "We are making an army of religious zealots" is how you get Taliban, Crusades, and 9/11s, but their current state seems to indicate they are in the "We know better, so we are going to do better" phase. I do not want to demonize something trying to do better. Is there indication that they are still actively trying to harm the LGBTQ+ community?
I am not asking because I doubt it, I am asking because I expect someone who does doubt it to ask me to "show my work".
@Rob_T_Firefly I want to be doubly clear:
I am not a fan, and advocate not giving to them.
Their own quote: "The Salvation Army has a mission statement which is very simple: to proclaim the gospel, to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, and meet human needs in his name, without discrimination. So that is why the Salvation Army serves everyone."
Outright put their their agenda and got before helping anyone, and that alone makes them bad at doing their self-assigned job, but that makes them generically horrible, not anti-queer horrible.
@LexPendragon I think it's on them to acknowledge their harm and prove they're doing better, and I don't see where they've shown any willingness to explicitly do so. The PR stuff on their webpage doesn't cut it for me.
I know they do good, but their wrongs are very much a matter of record and IMO they have to do a hell of a lot more to show receipts for progress and earn the trust they profess to deserve.
Atoning for wrongdoing is theoretically important for the Christian crowd.
Well this does explain the origins of atonal music.

You are literally citing the Salvation Army that they didn’t do anything wrong.
I bet you believe the cops when they investigate police brutality and say they found nothing.
That’s some really good research. 🙄
@jeffowski No, I do not, but I do want to have some more evidence of the wrongdoing before I repeat that it exists.
As I have been saying, I don't doubt that it exists, I was just asking for it.
