Citation needed?

I always believed this, but I paused to fact check and the Salvation Army's website seems to think that's not the case:

I was about to send this to my christian friend (mostly to needle /  him,) but I wanted to have my facts in hand before I do that. Do you have references for this?

I know their bible says to do that, but I also know most christians are bad at following their bible so they are eating cheeseburgers, shrimp, and aren't actually wishing death on homosexuals.

@LexPendragon @jeffowski There's definitely a complex and harmful history there, and they appear to have little interest in addressing it.

Whether or not they're any better nowadays, they definitely have a lot to answer for and they have yet to do so to any satisfactory degree.

Would-be donors should consider whether "doing the most good" might mean supporting one of the many other effective and reputable charities that provide for the needy without engaging in anti-gay beliefs, policies, or political activities.
