Seriously, THIS is a cool #DevKit and I kinda want such an #eInk screen for all my systems!

  • If anyone has an Idea to get something like that work with something that plugs into #USB and is willing to build these (or something similar to put.into a 3,5" or 5,25" drive bay: ping me!
/me imagines @TechConnectify building himself a #Retro-esque, #MccintoshClassic-style #Desktop with #eInk #Display like that...

Memes beside, I wished #Valve would just release a "#SteamDeck without the #Deck" and maybe shove it into some THINN ALUMINIUM SLAB so it's basically a fanless CHONKER and then just sell that for like €299 even if it's just a screenless SteamDeck.

Cuz if they beat pricing even harder, they could basically smack all 3 console makers with "cheaper, faster, better"...

Tho granted it's openness is not because '#GabeN is a good person' or something, but because #Steam needs to be #attractive to #consumers and #developers if they don't want to give #EpicGames and #GOG any breathing room...

So yeah #competition helps everyone here...

@kkarhan well… competition will help everyone up until the point Steam decides it is safe enough not to worry about the competition, then they pull the rug. We’ve seen it happen with every other for-profit “open source” company, Google probably being the biggest and most wealthy such example.

@ramin_hal9001 granted, #Google never open-sourced the key components of #Android like the #PlayStore + #GoogleServicesFramework and #Valve being a non-listed company with privately-held, non-publicly traded shares is under way less pressure to maximize short-term gains.

  • Obviously they do want to make profit, and being the de-facto #monopolist in #PCgaming already makes it comfy for them…

It's just that #Steam needs to be approachable for #developers and #customers as with either missing they'll basically die like #EA's and #Ubisoft's attempts…

  • So yeah we should be grateful for #EpicGames and #GOG as the ones forcing Valve to not "alter the deal" for worse
