I'd like to support both my #OS #developers and my #browser developers with 10€ a month each of the two. But I use directly and indirectly several OS and browsers: #GrapheneOS #AOSP #LinuxMint #Ubuntu #Debian #DuckDuckGo #Firefox #Mullvad #Tor How to go about this #decision ?

@tekklinik There’s always SPI/Software in the Public Interest

They’re US-based, but distribute funds to non-US projects. Not sure if that’s an issue for you?

SPI

@aspragg

Good to know about that organization, but it seems I have no option to select which projects get my donations (I'd like to donate only to the ones I use).

@tekklinik AOSP is literally funded and developed by Google. They don't need your money. Ubuntu is also developed by a pretty big company, Canonical, which makes money selling a bunch of enterprise crap.
Mozilla has enough money too, they just spend it on really dumb stuff. I wouldn't give them money. If they fail, it's their problem and their fault.

DuckDuckGo and Mullvad don't accept donations as far as I know, but you can subscribe to their services. Since Mullvad doesn't have a free option, you're already giving them money if you're using their VPN service.
DuckDuckGo offers a VPN (not sure how good it is, I'd rather stick to Mullvad) and a private AI service if you need that. But they make enough money from ads I guess, so I don't think they need your money that desperately either.

I'd go for GrapheneOS and Tor, they're both non-profit organizations and can use your money well. I'd also throw in Signal. You can either donate to them directly or subscribe to the new encrypted cloud backup feature.
