Reading the shocked reactions that Apple and Google removed ICE warning apps from their stores, I think that more should probably read about the role of IBM during the holocaust. Can we please finally get rid of the fairytale of social corporate responsibility in big tech?
@bastianallgeier Ah . I guess I have my afternoon research defined

@shalien @bastianallgeier A book to read…

IBM and the Holocaust: The Strategic Alliance Between Nazi Germany and America's Most Powerful Corporation

@bastianallgeier But "Blocking sideloading will keep your device secure". This is what they mean by secure - under their control.
@bastianallgeier This highlights how easily “corporate responsibility” gets used as a cover while control stays the priority. Big tech often frames restrictions as protection, but history shows how profit and power usually drive these choices. Maybe the real discussion should be about transparency and accountability instead of expecting morality from corporations.
@bastianallgeier Thank you! It's exhausting to watch centrists unwilling to be disillusioned, thinking this is a ceo problem or that Apple has lost its way as a company. Corporations have always had only one value, shareholder value. Also, Steve Jobs would have done the exact same thing.

@bastianallgeier
I haven't experienced the features of these now-blocked apps. Other apps, like Google Maps and Waze, have for years alerted users to police presence. They're not blocked. They've also been used to manually track #ICE activity.

This blocking, complicit with the fascist plots of the #convictedFelon #sexOffender #DonaldTrump regime, will be circumvented somehow. Online censorship is treated like a network outage: Traffic will be routed to bypass it.

@bastianallgeier

Fascism always helps government-aligned corporations.

@bastianallgeier on that theme, “IBM and the Holocaust” by Edwin Black is a phenomenal book.
@bastianallgeier that fairy tale is PR strategy to deter any chat about increasing taxation of corporations, as they are purely profit driven and they will say absolutely everything and bribe anyone.
And yes, it has been "corporations is how money talks and peace is guaranteed" propaganda forever. Similar to GOP strategy, it just doesn't hold any water anymore.
@bastianallgeier
I think you missed the memo after the social media bosses were browbeaten by Republicans in Congress because of their supposed liberal bias they we're happy to toe the MAGA line.

@bastianallgeier

Honest question here, how come these tracking things are being done with apps vs. just simple web pages? seems like you can host a webpage anywhere in the world and not need to distribute any sort of app.

@bastianallgeier I was saying to someone yesterday that people love to talk about Mercedes, BMW, Beyer, etc's, involvement in Nazi Germany, but don't put two and two together with Google or Apple or Microsoft or whoever.

Fascism is the purest form of capitalism

@bastianallgeier
24 days ago a man was assassinated while simply talking to people because the shooter believed that the man willing to talk to people was a nazi and a fascist.
Two weeks later, a gunman using the very apps that you referring to shot up an ICE facility, killing one migrant and wounding two others.
Perhaps continuing to compare people to nazis is not a great idea.
And perhaps the tech companies aren't removing the apps because they suddenly agree with the current administration.
@joshua a white american christian arguing for sympathy towards nazis? waow, must be a day ending in Y
@atax1a
A leftist calling people with different opinions a nazi.
Yep, definitely appears to be a day that ends in y.
@joshua yeah, ok, weird little fascist sympathizer
@atax1a
Honestly, I don't really sympathize with you at all.
I also don't think that your mind can be changed, though I do hope one day it will.
I simply hope that one day somebody whose mind can be changed, will look at the interactions between someone who claims to be against fascism vs someone who is supposedly a "sympathizer" and then go look for themselves what fascists actually stood for and how they acted.
If enough people do that, the actual fascists will be revealed.
@joshua charlie kirk was shot while advocating for the extermination of trans people and racism towards people of color. hope this helps, have a nice day
@atax1a
Charlie Kirk was shot while talking to people who disagreed with him and giving them a platform to publicly disagree with him and explain why.
@joshua yes, that's what we mean by "you are expressing fascist sympathy". you care more about a fascist than about the people he wanted to harm
@atax1a
You are trying to justify the public assassination of somebody because of their political views while at the same time calling me a "fascist sympathizer"
@joshua @atax1a charlie kirk was not publicly disagreeing with people that makes it sound like he actually had debates. he would stroll up on college campuses acting like a troll and arguing with college students. it's like if i went to the local daycare and started talking to kids about how big parents are going to take away their lollipops and when the kids are like "no?? they give me a lollipop all the time" i tell them to define lollipop and double down saying "but they could take it away. this is why we must rise up"
@puppygirlhornypost2 @atax1a
He started doing this when he was 18 years old, which is the same age as kids starting college.
He did this on college campuses that are supposed to be bastions of free speech, and where ideas are supposed to be discussed and debated.
He did not force anyone to come to the mike and he openly welcomed people that disagree.

@bastianallgeier
All of this but at the same time, corporations are made up of humans. Why can't enough of those humans have a sense of solidarity with other humans?

@jaykass @bastianallgeier
Because it's much easier to get rich if you don't care whether the people you are taking money from get to eat. So narcissists and fascists float to the top, where they get to make the decisions.

And even though the people on the bottom have the advantage of numbers, they know that they can easily become those who don't get to eat.

@bastianallgeier
1. Americans have ICE getting them used to people being disappeared.
2. Americans have Hegseth calling for an end to rules of engagement for the military.
3. Americans have Trump calling for the military to be deployed in US states against US citizens.
4. Tech bros that control America don't want Americans to be able to track any of this.

Put it together what have you got? 🤔

The powers that be want to gun down Americans inside the US without any consequences...

@bastianallgeier Corporations are people - very very bad people, the sort of people who commit war crimes.
@bastianallgeier Indeed. Why does this photograph remind me of some very recent happening?

@bastianallgeier
Makes me always wonder if "they" haven't seen the #ClubOfOligarchs very close to him at his inauguration.🤨
They were there for a reason. Or rather say Billions of...
Am not surprised at all. Considering the amassed wealth and possibilities of that club i expect a lot more to come.😱

So no need to point to historybooks in this case at this point.
(...unless you want to have a look into the original playbook of fascists)

@bastianallgeier

Instead of talking about everything that's stupid about #Apple and #Google, we should be promoting #opensource #smartphones and #Fdroid and co.

Update:
And promote #Reticulum 😍

@bastianallgeier
You cannot trust corporations of any sort. Corporations are creatures of law, and governments control law.
@bastianallgeier Yes. I also find the news that Google did this more shocking than Apple, because of their announced restrictions on "sideloading" (https://www.theregister.com/2025/08/26/android_developer_verification_sideloading/). Google are obviously not the good guys, but at least Android was somehow more open than iOS, until now... in the future, if Google decides they want to ban a developer, they will have all the cards to do so! and then we'll have no alternative systems (recognized by banks, etc)
Google kneecaps indie Android devs, forces them to register

: Sideloaders face ID checks, fees, and paperwork as Chocolate Factory tightens gates

The Register
@bastianallgeier "Too big to fail" doesn't work in that governmental environment.

@bastianallgeier People have not been paying attention if they are shocked by this. Google has also removed the ability to install apps outside of the app store aka side-loading and now requires developers to get verified. See link. for more information.

Apple and Google are both cooperating with the Trump admin. They'll have to run apps like that through a browser and circumvent the App store that way.

https://www.androidauthority.com/how-android-sideloading-restrictions-may-work-3595355/

Google's plan to restrict sideloading on Android has a potential escape hatch for users

Android will block users from sideloading apps made by unverified developers next year, but we may have found a workaround.

Android Authority
@bastianallgeier someone needs to make an app all branded up and images and so of for people to trace “ice cream vans”, or some such…
