3 senior #Palestinian officials said they still expect the #PA to be deeply involved in Gaza. They noted the role it has played in the enclave since the Hamas takeover, paying salaries to tens of thousands of civil servants & overseeing essential services, including education & Gaza's electricity supply.
"We're already there," Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa told Reuters.
#Mustafa, 71, was appointed by #Abbas last year as part of a shake-up of the Authority after President Joe #Biden made clear he wanted to see a revitalized #PA take charge in post-war Gaza.
"It's one thing to have some international, temporary arrangements to help & monitor things, it's another to govern & get things done," Mustafa said.
#Trump is holding a meeting of his cabinet.
"Last night we reached a momentous breakthrough in the Middle East, something that people said was never going to be done," Trump said.
"We ended the war in #Gaza,” Trump said taking credit for the international effort.
"We secured the release of all of the remaining hostages, & they should be released on Monday or Tuesday," he said.
He added that he would try & make a trip over to the #MiddleEast.
#Trump started his cabinet meeting discussing the #Gaza deal, but after about 15 mins moved on to his domestic priorities.
He blamed #Democrats for the #shutdown, talked about drug prices, #tariffs & #immigration.
He said he will use the shutdown to cut govt programs.
"We'll be cutting some very popular *Democrat programs* that aren't popular with Republicans, frankly, because that's the way it works. They wanted to do this, so we'll get a little taste of their own medicine," Trump said.
