@0xabad1dea
It's one of these things you either know or you don't - cause they can't be explained. 😅
@0xabad1dea I'm with your husband here. WHAT? (and I don't think I'm younger than you)
@DerPumu it was the hottest meme on earth about 20 years ago

@0xabad1dea

I just looked it up and recognised I never heard of that and I am pretty sure I've been on Earth 20 years ago. Maybe it's just because I was already too old then.

@DerPumu

@fzimper @0xabad1dea @DerPumu I don't remember that either.
@mfraz74 @fzimper @0xabad1dea @DerPumu it's all we had back there. there are like a dozen or so fairly random animations that just were _the_ thing. because what else should you do?
@myname @mfraz74 @fzimper @0xabad1dea @DerPumu they live on in the internet archive
@fzimper @0xabad1dea @DerPumu twenty years ago it was easier to miss stuff like this unless you were "terminally online". … thankfully.
@fishidwardrobe @fzimper @0xabad1dea 20 years ago I was terminally online - in WoW 😅
@0xabad1dea @DerPumu 20 years ago... Stop lying to yourself. It was in the 90s. 😂

@quinn @0xabad1dea @DerPumu "The cartoon went live on B3ta.com on 2 September 2003 at 3:49 a.m. GMT."

22 years still qualifies as "20 years ago"

@attero @0xabad1dea @DerPumu THAT'S CRAZY I SWEAR TO GOD I SAW IT IN THE 90S. this it one of those Berenstein Bears moment.

No, damnit I'm from a timeline where it happened in the 90s 😂

@quinn @attero @0xabad1dea @DerPumu in the 90s it would have taken hours to download that!
@rebe_gc @attero @0xabad1dea @DerPumu lemme tell about it, kid 😁
@rebe_gc @attero @0xabad1dea @DerPumu *puts on girdle and compression socks* lemme tell ya about usenet and efnet irc ...
@quinn @attero @0xabad1dea @DerPumu in the groups I used to frequent back then you got yelled at pretty loudly if you posted a 16 color gif so ...
@rebe_gc @attero @0xabad1dea @DerPumu I suppose we were a bit more yolo. And also more pirate all the things. Admittedly it got easier by the 90s, piracy was extremely difficult in the 80s, but that's also where luser meets were useful 😂

@quinn
I remember it from my first job, which was at least 2007. Although now that I think about it it might have been a dated reference.

@0xabad1dea This pie tastes of donkey poo!

@0xabad1dea even my 16yo knows that!

(Okay, he was raised by weird GenX parents who were early Internet adopters 😀)

@WiteWulf @0xabad1dea This 45 yo does not...
@0xabad1dea Everyone loves Magical Trevor
'Cause the tricks that he does are ever so clever
Look at him now, disappearin' the cow
Where is the cow hidden right now?

@0xabad1dea I swear half the incomprehensible ancient inscriptions archaeologists find are probably that eras version of this.

There'll be a museum in the far future that has a brick with "skibidi" scrawled on it. It'll be in a glass case with one of those little plaques telling folk it's a grave good to someone by that name. Or part of a temple to that god.

Humans crazy.

@fluffgar @0xabad1dea those of us slightly older again have snippets of popular adverts, and perhaps running gags from stand-up comedy etc, stuck in our heads too. Brits of a certain age will instantly understand "SOFT ON THE INSIDE, CRUNCHY ON THE OUTSIDE." I look forward to it causing much consternation when we're in our wheelchairs around the TV in our nursing homes watching nature documentaries, and randomly shout that out ..
@srtcd424 @fluffgar @0xabad1dea ... meanwhile, practically all germans of all ages will cringe at the mention of SEITENBACHER ...

@srtcd424 @fluffgar @0xabad1dea One of my proudest parenting achievements is that my 19 year old son will, correctly, point out that something soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside is "like an ARMADILLOOOOOOO!"

He also knows that badgers, mushrooms and snakes go together.

This causes problems when he thinks his 20+ year old memes should be understood by his friends. But that just makes them one of today's lucky 10,000.

@fluffgar @0xabad1dea pretty sure people in the future are going to think game of thrones and harry potter are religious myths
@fluffgar @0xabad1dea most of the extant clay tablets with cuneiform inscriptions are apparently written by kids practicing to be scribes. Makes me wonder how many lines have been puzzled over by scholars but are actually just kid jokes

Rathergood - We Like The Moon (High Quality Audio & Video)

YouTube

@cstross @0xabad1dea

My partner is within a few months of my age, but was not online much until she was in her late 20s so missed a lot of these things (though not badgers, I don’t think anyone missed that). So I had to explain why I always say ‘we like the moon!’ When I see a full moon and always follow the word ‘dirigibles’ with ‘and Zeppelins and lightbulbs’.

She also hadn’t seen Strong Bad, so needed to be introduced to Trogdor to understand why I always say ‘Sworded!’ Whenever my character stabs something in a game.

@david_chisnall @cstross @0xabad1dea My partner had actually never seen the badgers bit until I showed it to her recently. Something about working on a PhD. until 2006 and the post-doctoral work got in the way of all that early cool stuff. Poor, dear girl.

@StumpyTheMutt @cstross @0xabad1dea

Watching Weebl was how we procrastinated when I was a PhD student! And we all know from phdcomics that procrastination is the key skill for a PhD.

@david_chisnall @0xabad1dea Yeah, and there we go because I have NO IDEA who Trogdor is.

@cstross @0xabad1dea

In one of the StrongBad series, he creates a game called Trogdor the Burninator, a dragon who burn[inate]s things (you have to burn villagers and not be killed by knights). The game has sound samples that are StrongBad speaking and saying things like ‘burninated!’ ‘Sworded!’ And ‘Arrowed!’.

I think it was originally just an in-animation game that some of the characters played, but one of the later ones had it as a playable game (possibly if you clicked on the right word in ‘the paper’ at the end?).

@0xabad1dea the cultural impact of Weebl's vids is totally underrated.
@0xabad1dea badger badger badger badger
mushroom mushroom!
@0xabad1dea explain that you act like this because you have seen things with your eyes and that they're often in disguise, and repeat the concept over and over again until your voice goes out of sync
@0xabad1dea did he at least look at your horse? Its amazing.
ZOMG ZUFALL! #6239

@0xabad1dea 20 years ago we wrote a script to auto launch this in the complete computer lab at my high school xD
