Day 13: Horizon
It isn’t all puppies and rainbows during Inktober, you know. 🔪

Time-lapse process for Day 15: Guidebook.
I love trying to emulate the style of Apple’s eWorld social network. Everything is so vibrant and the shapes are really forgiving but there’s a quality about it that if you don’t get just right, it def feels wrong. I think I pulled it off here tho.
This one ended up being much more fun than I thought it would be given the boring prompt. Yay!

I think many artists enjoy trying to emulate their favorite creators. I get a great deal of joy from looking at work I admire and trying to figure out what makes it so amazing.
Being able to replicate the charming work of Charles Shultz is one small example. The simple, sketchy line work, the amazing colors and even the shadows cast by the animation cells. This was a fun one. 👻🎃
Day 17: Journal
Time-lapse process for Day 17: Journal
Struggled with a bunch of stuff here including her face. I spent maybe 3 hours on this one start to finish. Time-lapse makes it look effortless, and to some talented folks this would be a cake walk, but it wasn’t for me. Still it was fun to draw and I’m amazed I enjoyed it at all considering the utterly boring prompt of ‘Journal’. 😐
“I have an ultimate storage capacity of 800 quadrillion bits.”
Day 18: Drive
Time-lapse process for Day 18: Drive
I like to think I’m not a one trick pony. Sketches like this one really help me get outside my comfort zone and prove it. I knew exactly what I wanted to draw but I wasn’t sure how (or even if) I was gonna be able to pull it off.
The trick is to take things one step at a time and try not to get discouraged. This one could’ve been better but it’s pretty much how I saw it in my head and that’s what matters.
Day 19: Ridge
Time-lapse process for Day 19: Ridge
Didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted but still happy overall. Just wish it was a bit more luminous . 🤷♂️

Time-lapse process for Day 20: Uncharted
Gilligan’s Island was my happy place as a kid. I would come home from school and watch at least 2 episodes which were played back to back. My mom *hated* the show but I loved it.
I tried to squeeze in as many Easter eggs into this sketch as I could - the WWII Magnetic mine, the island volcano, the cave, quicksand and more. Watched a couple ep while I drew which was also fun. 😄
Day 20: Rhinoceros
Time-lapse process for Day 20: Rhinoceros.
I’m not really happy with this one, would’ve done a lot of things differently but it was late and I think I fell asleep twice while drawing it. :-/
Day 22: Camp
Time-lapse process for Day 22: Camp
What you don’t see here are the THREE attempts I made before this one. Couldn’t get the grid size and the flame shape just right. Much trial and error. I like how it turned out in the end though. Gotta push a few pixels every now and then.
Time-lapse process for Day 23: Rust
It’s amazing how subtle changes in eye position can make a character look spot on or “off”. Struggled a bit with Bender’s eyes here. Didn’t want him to look mean or have “resting robot face” but slightly drunk or off-kilter with his rusty beard growth. Very fun to draw. #Inktober #Futurama #HumanArt #LineaSketch
“We came here in peace, we expect to go in one… piece.”
Day 24: Expedition
Time-lapse process for Day 24: Expedition.
Be sure to turn your sound up on this one! 🎶 Also, remind me to never draw a nine-sided technical object ever again. 🥴 This made me want to continue watching SG-1. I stopped somewhere at the start of S3 and need to keep going.
My drawings for the second half of Inktober. Favorites this time around are probably 13: Horizon and 15: Guidebook. I love drawing eWorld stuff so that one was super fun to create. There’s only a handful of days and drawings left… where did October GO!?
“I think I’ll miss you most of all.”
Day 25: Scarecrow
Time-lapse process for Day 25: Scarecrow.
No sketching, just drawing and it turned out okay! Will try to do more like this in the future if I can work up the courage. #Inktober #Halloween #HumanArt #MastoArt #LineaSketch
Time-lapse process for Day 26: Gamera
I’m not sure I made the right color choices on this one, could be a lot stronger I think but the play on words was still fun to draw and I love shading with halftone dots. 🤷♂️ #Inktober #Halloween #HumanArt #MastoArt #LineaSketch
Time-lapse process for Day 27: Road.
I debated in my mind if I was going to actually draw this one and I decided I had to. Like most of you I simply cannot believe millions of Americans are prepared to embrace Trump and the fascism, lawlessness and racism he represents. I feel like I’m living on another planet. I hope we all soon learn our fears were unfounded. I hope. I hope. #Inktober #USPolitics #HumanArt #MastoArt #LineaSketch
Day 28: Jumbo
Time-lapse process for Day 28: Jumbo.
Yes, I drew an elephant but I tried to make him as adorable as I possibly could to make up for my lack of cleverness.
Hard to believe but there’s only three days/drawings to go. Crazy.
Day 29: Navigator
I still carry a grudge to this day about Farscape being cancelled way ahead of its time.
Time-lapse process for Day 29: Navigator
This was so horrible at the very beginning I almost trashed it and went with a different idea. Stuck with it however and was happy how it turned out.
Could say that about a lot of things in life I think.
Two to go!!!
Day 30: Violin
Day 31: Landmark
Time-lapse process for Day 31: Landmark
That’s a wrap on Inktober 2024. I hope you enjoyed following along as much as I enjoyed drawing. Inktober helped keep me sane in the run up to this stupid election so I figured it was fitting the final entry was about casting our critical ballots.
Thanks to all who liked or commented on my work, it really means a lot to me. I’m actually looking forward to next year, I just hope the prompts will be more exciting. 😐
Day 1: Mustache
Time-lapse process for Day 1: Mustache
Channeled Edward Gorey for this one, I have always admired his work. In college I wrote him to ask permission to use The Gashleycrumb Tinies in a school project.
I was delighted when he wrote me back & crushed when he said no. This was in 1994, pre-internet, only for class but he still said no. I never forgot it.
So I’ve always tried to give permission for my stuff when I can because of him. He died in 2000.
