Yes, a Maxwell sword. It's a psychokinetic weapon made by gathering hot particles into a tear-shaped blade that extends exactly 1 metre from the fingertips or clenched fist (depending on the wielder's preference). It's my not-a-light-sabre-for-legal-purposes. :)

I've never thought about it, but I'd picture her as attending formal education and being disgusted by how lax it is, how it doesn't have clear winners and losers, heroes and villains. It's utterly failing to make *sense* of the world with all of it's "maybes" and "mights" and "it depends..."

Now that I really think about it, a huge part of her mission is to make proper education where children are told directly what the nature of the world is and what they must do to protect it. Confusing them with "context" is pointless when there's a war on.

(There is no war. She's delusional.)

There would be one of her immediate family, two of her floor family--cousins and aunties and everyone

Every so often, the family one would glitch, and you'd catch a glimpse of her and three other kids against a bare metal wall, wearing threadbare clothes, looking haunted.

The image would disappear before you could get a real look at it, and you'd have to wait for a whole minutes before it came back.

Eventually, you'd pick out her, looking like a shadow of her happy, cheerful self, as well as a dark-skinned boy with a hint of madness in his eyes, an earnest but terrified white hippie girl, and a big Asian boy with raggedy black hair.

Her mom really, REALLY wanted to take the whole family to space. It's a lottery system (except for "important" people, who jump the line), and their ticket never came up. They were able to do the low-G airplane thing--more spaces, so the lottery's not so bad--but never actual *space*.

And then she was abducted and taken to Jupiter, so be careful what you wish for.

My novella (previous project) was *designed* to be ongoing. I could and would love to write a half dozen of those. They're so much fun.

She lives semi-communally in an arcology. Her nuclear family has its own space, for privacy, but they spend most of their time in a shared space occupied by a half dozen other families, eating communally, children playing together, adults working together. She has "cousins" from all those families as well as all the aunties, uncles, and grandparents she could ever want. That's all normal to her. And that's just her floor.

When I was *much* younger, I wrote the origin stories for some characters in a cartoon I watched when I was even younger. I did it for practice, to have the narrative mapped out for me and work on the mechanics of writing. I also did one short story that is set in Star Trek, and my current project is a writing back at Star Wars.
