These are the beautiful spore-producing structures of plasmodial slime molds. Which is your favourite colour?

Originally considered Fungi, these Myxomycetes are now classed as Amoebozoans - single celled organisms with thousands of nuclei... not animals or fungi but something else entirely!

@frankashwood I was so excited when I finally stumbled upon a slime mould colony in the wild. Just across the road from a bat colony, growing on a dead mangrove tree.
@pelicangut @frankashwood Don't know about AU, but in the USA slime molds aren't especially rare in the wild, the hard part is learning to recognize that's what you are looking at! Here's one common species found in a lot of parts of the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuligo_septica

@frankashwood I didn't know about these taxonomic "extras" until now (only that they are not #fungi) and was fascinated to read more about Amoebozoans https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amoebozoa I'll breed the orange one. 😁

@frankashwood Protists, in fact - they still fall under the domain Eukaryotae.
@frankashwood Favorite is the third photo, the dark ones.
@frankashwood nice pictures, I most like the beige colored one. The red and blacks are interesting too, but the first is my favorite.
@frankashwood I like the orange one 🥰
@frankashwood They're all stunning, but I do like the look of the black orbs.
