"Not Alligator Alcatraz. Alcatraz held people who had been convicted in a court of law.
This is Alligator Auschwitz, which will hold people who are not charged with anything other than the crime of being brown, just like Auschwitz held those for the crime of being a Jew."

@ZhiZhu @rbreich I beg to differ. Auschwitz was an institution of industrial mass murder. Entire trainloads of people (that's 1000+ humans in case "trainloads" sounds too abstract) were killed immediately after arrival in purpose-built facilities. And it was one site in a grand scheme of genocide.
Trump is evil. Alligator Alcatraz must not be. But it is not Auschwitz.
@passwordsarehard4 @Hinz_oder_Kunz @rbreich
Nazi #ConcentrationCamps were originally referred to as "deportation" camps, where Jewish people would be held prior to being deported. But actually deporting Jewish people turned out to be slower and more expensive than other options. So... The #Nazis turned to the "Final Solution" which was much more "efficient."
The first US Concentration Camp - #AlligatorAuschwitz - in #Florida will cost $450 million per year to operate. Soโฆ
@Hinz_oder_Kunz @ZhiZhu @rbreich
Auschwitz was established in 1939, almost immediately after the German invasion of Poland. It was used to imprison people immediately: initially former Polish soldiers. They didn't start the mass executions until almost two years later, in August 1941 after the invasion of the USSR.
Auschwitz was still Auschwitz for those two years before the mass murders began. Before it was a factory for killing people, it was a prison.
Calling a prison Auschwitz isn't historically inaccurate. It just means that the mass murders haven't started yet.
@passenger @Hinz_oder_Kunz @ZhiZhu @rbreich
hmmm no. Auschwitz was established in 1939 as a concentration camps.
The purpose of a concentration camp is to kill people through labor.
It was not a prison.
@rbreich The branding is right there, folks. Not Alligator AlcatrazโAlligator Auschwitz.
A failure of imagination with these folks will always have on our back foot.
@LeelaTorres
@โbroadwaybabyto
It took just over a week to create a massive
concentration camp.
Remember this the next time those in power
claim they can't house the homeless, feed the
starving or provide medical care to the poor.
= =
They can, they don't want to.
@Cassandra
Pretty sure this Robert Reich person / bot doesn't care. I've never seen it interact at all, just post screen shots of its Bluesky account or some other stolen posts.
I think there must be multiples, because I seem to keep blocking this.
@GLaDTheresCake @Cassandra @xinit
His website links to a linktree, which links to all his socials, including Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon. His website also links directly to a few profiles (Mastodon not included). Not linking directly means that any Mastodon profile verification won't work.
Funnily enough, some of his recent posts are posted on Threads and Bluesky as plain text, and posted here as images.
That last bit's the part that really confuses me. Wouldn't it be easier for the human or bot behind the posting to ... just post the text again rather than taking a screenshot and posting that?
@xinit @GLaDTheresCake @Cassandra
It could be a staff member using a 3rd party "post everywhere" tool, but they decided that a rage bait soundbite quote rendered on a red background (with no alt text) is more appropriate for Fedi.
He also has a Spoutible account, still linked from the linktree, which is following zero other accounts. It hasn't made any new posts in more than a year.
But at least his linktree is not linking to a defunct G+ or Hyves profile.
@dec23k
Whatever the choices that lead them here, it's the sort of thing I just block at this point. I'm choosier with my bait these days.
Poverty is arranged. Poverty is built. Poverty is enforced.
Poverty is a shameful crime of the wealthy.
@rbreich
Although it is very obvious, that concentration camps are neither "housing" nor do they provide food better than calories or anything which might resemble medical treatment.
Only thing this proves is, that they are willing to spend lots of money to make lives worse.
@rbreich Stolen to add alt-text.
Also, it's Alligator Auschwitz. It's a concentration camp, not a prison.
I think itโs more accurate to say, โThey can. They just donโt want to.โ
That would be socialism!
