The next time a politician claims we can’t house the homeless, feed the starving or give medical care to the poor…. remember that they were able to build a concentration camp in 8 days.

We could provide for everyone if we wanted to, but instead we’re spending the money on fascist facilities and cutting taxes for the wealthy.

The most controversial statement of our age is that there is enough for everyone.
@broadwaybabyto
First comes the lie, then the dictator develops a plan that only he can solve it. The lie demands a solution.

@broadwaybabyto anyone can throw up a bunch of wire dog cages in eight days though

It's not a sign of how fast they can do shit, it's a sign of how little they care

@broadwaybabyto Politicians and hypocrisy comes together hand to hand sadly.
@broadwaybabyto And making exceptions for plantation workers. Coz having slaves is convenient in capitalism.
@broadwaybabyto One of the sessions I attended at this year’s Race, Religion, and Social Justice #RRSJ explored how every #famine in modern history is now human-made. Although she was looking at it in the context of war and conflict, I think the prevalence of a more subtle version is hidden behind the label β€œfood insecurity” We are literally starving segments of society in a Dickensian way and most people refuse to recognize that.
@broadwaybabyto I'm sure the homeless will be rounded up soon. Nazis do this stuff in waves. They find the people with the least ability to defend themselves, and the most resented by the general public. Then they move on to the next-most, and so on. Now that they've started building the camps, all the "undesirables" will be sent there. Yellow stars for Jews, pink triangles for LGBTQ people, etc. Nazis had a whole _set_ of tags for this.

@broadwaybabyto Look what we managed in #Ottawa, #Canada. It's a start and a move in the right, humane direction:

City officials unveil converted office building as 'major milestone' in transitional housing

The building will offer transitional housing for 140 single adults who are experiencing homelessness, with a focus on newcomers to Canada.

@alexblock
I kind of wish there were doors. It'd be token since the walls don't go all the way to the ceiling, but that extra feeling of security goes a long way, especially when most of these people are refugees.

That said, this is a HUGE step up from shelters.

@broadwaybabyto

@mayintoronto @broadwaybabyto The second photo shows at least there is a privacy curtain, although Im pretty sure the person in the photo was chosen to make it *look* like the walls arw higher than they actually are; however, I suspect they couldn't have floor to ceiling walls due to the need for air circulation given that they are repurposing an existing office space.

@alexblock Yes I'm aware of curtains, but have you ever felt safe and secure behind a curtain?

I understand the need for not-full walls in this relatively temporary set up, but doors would have gone a really long way here for the people they're serving.

@broadwaybabyto

@mayintoronto @broadwaybabyto I totally agree, physical, solid doors would be a much better choice. I wonder what the logic was for choosing curtains instead?

@alexblock @mayintoronto @broadwaybabyto

It's a deliberate planning choice to curtail illegal on-site activity.

@AwattoAnalog A bad decision then. People in need of support deserves real privacy and safety. Not curtains.

It's more likely an insurance/fire safety issue.
