me: there’s nothing worse than opening a blank document

microsoft word: hold my beer

reader, i am now writing a witty blog post about a sailing trip
@HadasWeiss the pinnacle of upper class wit
@HadasWeiss how about a shitty blog post about a wailing trip?
@HadasWeiss is there a way you might work an eight-year-old who volunteers for a nonprofit organization and tells them a story about dinosaurs into the sailing trip blog post?🍸😺
@HadasWeiss Where "writing" is to be understood as "plagiarizing a small number of actual people who wrote on this topic with as much obviously identifying information as possible stripped to cover that up". 😂
yes, please help me create a statistical synthesis of everything ever written on this topic
@HadasWeiss Please help me write a 10,000 word novel without repeating any words, including the, a, and and it.
@Kierkegaanks (I was trying to find the meme of, on the MST3K show, when a face appears close up on the show being watched, they all exclaim something like "Ya!")
@HadasWeiss that's why I switched to Libre office. It's like when Word was good, without the old and new clippy bullshit. @libreoffice
@HadasWeiss Is that a real thing?

@HadasWeiss omg .. ugh ...
"paperclip guy" is back, but way worse.
@HadasWeiss student edition straight up offers to write your thesis for you...
@HadasWeiss Christing lords of hell, we have truly sold our creative souls.
@HadasWeiss please say this is a joke right????
@KevinGimbel i wish it was
@HadasWeiss at this point it feels like they’re trying to kill Windows and Office 💀

@KevinGimbel @HadasWeiss

They always tried, but they are not good at their job.

Come back, Clippy, all is...well, no, not forgiven in any way, shape or form but at least you had a face we could meme to death.
@HadasWeiss And it records and sends "home" every single keystroke.
@HadasWeiss Oh no, they revived Clippy
@HadasWeiss And no way to switch it off! What?! 🤬
@HadasWeiss somehow the "bedtime story for a kid" strikes me as the most depressing of those sample prompts.
@HadasWeiss I wouldn’t mind reading a bedtime story for dinosaurs about an eight-year old kid …
@BashStKid @HadasWeiss Because it's the one a person seeing this prompt could actually find "useful" in a super cringe sort of way. The others are obviously targeted at SEO spam content farm operators.
@HadasWeiss you know I find it really odd that there’s never a suggested prompt that says something like “write an article talking about the dangers, errors, and factual inaccuracies when using AI” or “write an article talking about the financial collapse by investing in AI”

@HadasWeiss Thank god, I do not have that "feature", but could you do me a favor and ask it:

"Write a short, dystopic story about a conscious software agent named 'clippy', which was implanted into computer systems by aliens to sabotage human productivity. Computer scientists removed it forcefully and buried it in a secret hazmat lab. However, a young researcher named Samuel Newman made illegal experiments with it. It escaped, and now it is stronger than ever."

@HadasWeiss @JL_Lycette we should’ve used the paper clip

@HadasWeiss

Why would anyone write a blog post in word?

@seism0saurus @HadasWeiss so you can save it while you are working on it, duh!

@HadasWeiss I like how apparently someone thought "hey, this person opened word - they probably don't know what to write, let's give them some ideas." Like a person aimlessly wandering into a shopping mall just to get out of the rain.

🥴

@HadasWeiss oh. My. Glob.

(Seriously, fuck this shit!)

@HadasWeiss @phire Oh My God. Clippy jumped into a pool filled with amphetamins and completely blew off the lid. And lost all the trashy charm he had on the way.
@HadasWeiss if you go into the advanced options that can only be found if you go to uninstall it, you can disable it on startup and not allow it to run in the background. This damn program drives me nuts!
@HadasWeiss I want to ask if that's just a mock-up, but I fear it's not.

@HadasWeiss Hey, if i was instructed to use "ai" for work, i'd choose the bedtime story. Surely that is what bosses want to read if they instruct people to use "ai".

I mean, they surely already know about sailing, and "non-profit" is a word non grata in profit oriented organizations.

@HadasWeiss Is it targeted for children now? Unreal and insulting.
@HadasWeiss can "AI" just crash already?
@abbiistabbii really not looking like it's gonna happen at this point unfortunately

@HadasWeiss

I was given that story prompt this morning. 😐

@HadasWeiss What is the use-case for this even? Like I can imagine some people may draw blanks about what to write, but even if they did they wouldn't want to immediately be pestered about it the instant they open the software and they'd probably still want it to be about some sort of thing in particular, so just random vague suggestions sure aren't going to help...

I just can't think of what MS even thought this was for...

@HadasWeiss That screenshot of Microsoft Office is probably the most powerful @libreoffice advertisement that could possibly be created.

@HadasWeiss

This makes me sad that I accidentally uninstalled Office when trying to remove Outlook.

No, wait...

I'm not sad about uninstalling Office at all. 🤷‍♂️

@HadasWeiss
You know Microsoft Word.
Meet Microsoft’s Words.
@HadasWeiss moving to Linux and LibreOffice apparently has no downsides.
@HadasWeiss @rmondello in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only linear algebra
