One of Mastodon's biggest barriers to entry is the Mastodon HOA, the massive volunteer army of scolds who take it upon themselves to tell strangers that they are doing it wrong. It's like you're waiting in line at the grocery store and someone you've never so much as made eye contact with looks into your cart and decides to enlighten you that meat is murder. They feel better about themselves ...
@GroupNebula563
That blog post is full of ableist justification crap. Gross attitude.
@greengaybles @kimlockhartga @forestine tell you what' i've gone and added a "don't be this guy" section to http://bluepixelcomputing.com:8141/fedi/alt_text.htm
i was going to be funny with query parameters here but the webserver explicitly sends 403s to anything requesting a parameter it *DOESN'T RECOGNISE*. not tracking params. ANY PARAMETER. ANY. somehow, that tracks. i'd love to see what other gems are in this guy's .htaccess file...
@kimlockhartga 😂😂😂
Indeed.
@kimlockhartga maybe they'd do it more if they realized it positively impacts search results, since at least on Mastodon (dunno about others) (and at least with full text) the alt is searchable.
Or maybe not when people keep the image macro about not adding alt on purpose on standby like cmon.
@kimlockhartga so true.
I use the Toot! app on iOS to post, it has this handy toggle in the settings so I can’t post without adding alt text. It keeps me from forgetting!
@kimlockhartga @cdevroe If you add 22 hashtags to your image post that is totally unrelated to the hashtags I follow and it shows up in my feed, I will block you.
