If you add 22 hashtags to your image post, you can certainly add alt text.
@kimlockhartga and not just the hashtags copied into the alt text which i have seen 💀
@forestine OH I have not seen that. Holy No.
@kimlockhartga @forestine hashtags or sometimes just the whole post content. either way, no matter what you do, don’t be this guy: https://www.jwz.org/blog/2025/02/on-blocking-mastodon-hoa-edition/
On Blocking, Mastodon HOA Edition

One of Mastodon's biggest barriers to entry is the Mastodon HOA, the massive volunteer army of scolds who take it upon themselves to tell strangers that they are doing it wrong. It's like you're waiting in line at the grocery store and someone you've never so much as made eye contact with looks into your cart and decides to enlighten you that meat is murder. They feel better about themselves ...

@GroupNebula563 ugh, the comparison in this blog post is so terrible (about a random stranger scolding you for buying meat). It's more like telling somebody that the way they parked their car is blocking the wheelchair ramp (and that obviously is a good thing to do!)
@GroupNebula563 He could even maybe kinda not be completely wrong, if the alt text he was using were something like "Screenshot of the blog post containing the same sentences as the toot above"
How does he expect blind people to know, that it is not a screenshot of something completely different? They have no way of knowing that they don't miss anything relevant because of shitty alt text
(But copying those sentences when taking the screenshot would not even take that much longer. Just do it 🙄)
@Larymir
Or even just don't include a screenshot of the text you're posting and linking to. That save him and the reader time, and also saves storage space for your instance.
@GroupNebula563
@Infrapink
Oh, good Point. If you have the time to add an unnecessary picture, you also have the time to provide alt text for it
