What's this?

The poster board section of a Target in #LosAngeles

They're all gone

Why are all the posters gone?

#NoKings

(bye for now #Mastodon, I leave soon myself to join my local #protest #demonstration)

#USA

The posters my daughter made

I was impressed by the number of #American #flags at our #protest

International observers you are entitled to dislike the #flag but domestically we must wrest the #symbol back from #MAGA

#Capitulation and #complacency towards what #bigots falsely claim as theirs is not acceptable

#NoKings #USA #US

@benroyce As someone looking from the outside, I can say that I do not dislike your flag.

Stay safe, film everything, keep things peaceful. Don't fall for traps. Sometimes there are plants that try to turn protests violent. Isolate/distance yourself from them.

@gabriel

they're driving by shouting insults and "MAGA"

ignored

@benroyce
Canadians had to do the same after Maple MAGAs claimed our flag--we took it back, you can as well.! πŸ’ͺ

@SnowshadowII @benroyce

I love my country. Just like loving your children, β€œlove” doesn’t mean β€œblindly support whatever happens,” it means correcting things so they/it can be the best person/country possible.

This nuance is apparently lost on a lot of people, where the symbol has become the substance.

@rk @benroyce @SnowshadowII I recall something that circulated in the G W Bush days:
"There is nothing wrong with patriotism, defined as 'love of my country', until you also define 'love' as 'blind worship' and 'my country' as 'the man in the White House'."

@rk ".. β€œlove” doesn’t mean β€œblindly support whatever happens,” Well said. πŸ’―

@benroyce

@benroyce Absolutely. Here in the #UK in the 70s and 80s the far-right National Front hijacked the Union Jack, so nobody else wanted to display it for fear of being thought an NF supporter. Thankfully those days are gone. Don't let the MAGAts do the same to your flag.
@tokensane @benroyce That, I'm afraid, is already the case. Flag outside the house in most cases means MAGA or at least Republican (read: Nazi, at this point)
@phoenixgee @tokensane so you bring the American flag to lefty protests like #NoKings so there is no confusion. or you fly the American flag next to the rainbow flag on your porch, same effect. if for no other reason than the pettiest of reasons: to piss off MAGA
@tokensane @benroyce The
"Freedom Convoy" did that with ours for a while too, but Trump has helped the rest of us reclaim it.
@benroyce and they do not honor the flag. They plaster Donny Dollhands all over it.

US Flag Code

@benroyce Plus, it is Flag Day. Perfectly appropriate to be waving all the flags.
@quixote holy crap how did i forget that. and someone with a New Zealand handle reminding me. I am ashamed
@benroyce I lived in the US for decades. But I'd forgotten too. I saw it somewhere else today πŸ˜† .
@benroyce
Big respect, love and solidarity from germany!
Even though I personaly don't like national flags I know most US-Americans have a different relation to it. And it's good to see that so many of you are protesting!
Stay strong!

@benroyce
At the march in my city, I saw a man with his family and a sign that said "I GOT THIS POSTER FOR FATHER'S DAY, THANKS TRUMP" and I felt that in my soul. Unlike Trump he has a wife and kids who actually want to be with him, and he has to be at a protest to save the country.

We could all be at a brunch, with no kidnapped neighbors or betrayed allies.

Photo: A white lady holding an arty poster of a child's face looking up to the right, made of brown leaves.
The blue text reads "never lose sight of truth. Respect. Integrity. (Smaller) Hope. Civility"
Left of the face is a solid blue block filling the space to the edge of the poster. Right says "teach our children that no man woman or child is an island"
Below: "Humanity. America" and smaller "humility, love". Bottom right is an orange heart.
@benroyce those are keepsakes and family heirlooms ... imagine keeping them and grandchildren and descendants telling stories of how these artworks were part of a national protest in 2025

@benroyce

Wow! I would love to buy these as posters or t-shirts. 😍

@todymotmot

that's what i told her

i told her to sell those, or just get the designs out there, it's why i'm posting them (with her permission)

they're iconic, perfect

it's beyond mere protest poster

@benroyce Absolutely!
If she's hesitant, please tell her to scan now, figure out details later. ❀️ They need to be seen!
@benroyce
as the daughter of immigrants, this granny agrees with this work of art

Photo: Lady showing a very arty poster with a picture made of brown leaves. Left is a tired looking face looking down, on the right blond reminiscent of a crowd. The face looking down has a wreath, I think it represents the statue of liberty. The beautiful calligraphic text during it reads above: "words still matter. Give us your tired"
Left next to the eyes: "your poor"
Below right: "your huddled masses"
Below whole width: "most of our grannies were daughters of immigrants..
@benroyce #ALT4you continues
... America is stronger for it".
In the background is a lawn and house on a street. The white lady holding the poster has blondish hair tied up in a bun, blue sunglasses and a white hoody. She's looking down at the poster she's showing. Another white person with a blue baseball cap and maroon jumper is passing by in the background
@benroyce That's amazing work.
@benroyce do you mind if I #alttext4you these?

@econads

please do

and then i'll edit my posts

apologies for the brevity of the alt text

usually i run these through image-to-text and am good with alt text but i'm out and about and can't focus in the sun at the demo

and thank you!

@benroyce it might take a little while I'm restricted to 10 mins at a time!

@benroyce #ALT4you
Lady with a very arty hand drawn poster. Right: picture of a brown lady's 3 quarters face looking left with a 4 green leaves above her fringe as a hair decoration. Another leaf is below right where of get neck where a shirt collar would be. Lovely calligraphic text surrounds her. Above: hell hath no fury...
Below left: like a woman scorned.
In smaller text below: Mother nature and united grannies of America are watching and vote!

Just realised the whole picture is leaves!
