@jiji @jamesthomson @caseyliss No, it doesn’t. One of the biggest myths about GDPR is that companies need consent to process your data when It’s simply not true. They have to inform you if they are processing your data when they acquire it and give you the chance to object, but it doesn’t stop them gathering it in the first place.
And if they’re not an EU company, it only applies for services offered in the EU to those in the EU
@jiji It very much depends on their Privacy Impact Assessment, and if applicable their DPIA.
Of course their assessment and that of a judge wouldn’t necessarily be the same, but the chance of them ending up in court is minimal.
@torsteinv Yeah no.

@Craigosborne @caseyliss Jellyfin is great. Jellyfin+Infuse is (mostly) an improvement over the tire fire of Plex. I like a lot about the Jellyfin GoogleTV client. But really, Swiftfin could use some love. We really need an A+ iOS/TVOS Jellyfin client (with support for transcoding and other nice things).
My point is: Jellyfin is pretty dang good…but what we need is developers (or money) to improve the clients. If we had that, nobody would ever look back.
The only answer to the " opt in opt of AI scraping ask/threat/exposure" is neither yes or no, but uninstall.
Or sometimes, quitting.
@aj @caseyliss can't opt-out on data collection with jellyfin ... because there isn't any. Saves on storage for us, saves on designing an opt out UI.
And well, privacy duh.^^
@caseyliss Thank you for the heads up 🙏
I can only assume the folks recommended Jellyfin (or Emby) as a “viable” alternative have never used Plex before?

@caseyliss Was already opted out for selling personal data, but not for sharing personal info to random vendors.
