@caseyliss I found the options already switched off, thankfully.
@jamesthomson @caseyliss Me too, but at the bottom a couple were not checked, either Yes or No.
@jamesthomson @caseyliss maybe they learned finally to make this sort of crap opt in.
@Geoffairey @jamesthomson @caseyliss pretty sure the GDPR requires the crap to be opt in.

@jiji @jamesthomson @caseyliss No, it doesn’t. One of the biggest myths about GDPR is that companies need consent to process your data when It’s simply not true. They have to inform you if they are processing your data when they acquire it and give you the chance to object, but it doesn’t stop them gathering it in the first place.

And if they’re not an EU company, it only applies for services offered in the EU to those in the EU

@Geoffairey in this case plex *is* providing a service to users in the eu (and uk) and therefore needs to follow the gdpr. and i’m aware of article 6, but i though that ad tech for a paid service rarely falls under legitimate interest?

@jiji It very much depends on their Privacy Impact Assessment, and if applicable their DPIA.

Of course their assessment and that of a judge wouldn’t necessarily be the same, but the chance of them ending up in court is minimal.

@jiji @jamesthomson @caseyliss Marketing and Sales falls under a different law, but there’s not enough space in a toot to get into that.
@jamesthomson @caseyliss For me, most were too, but check the TCF Vendor ones at the bottom of that page. For me they were still on… feels like a sneaky anti-pattern given the “all off” at the top of the page.
