“If people can’t trust that the data they are giving the government will be protected, (and believe) that it will be used for things other than what they gave it for, it will lead to a crisis of trust,” EFF’s Mario Trujillo told @newyorktimes https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/technology/trump-palantir-data-americans.html
Trump Taps Palantir to Compile Data on Americans

The Trump administration has expanded Palantir’s work with the government, spreading the company’s technology — which could easily merge data on Americans — throughout agencies.

@eff @newyorktimes Bold of you to assume any trust is left...
@eff @newyorktimes part of me feels the following question is conspiracish; another part seems like it's totally valid: do you suppose when DOGE was hacking into govt databases, part of the point was to grab the data for Palantir?
@eff @newyorktimes Back in 2010 I worked on the US census. A couple of years later I worked with some US Census Bureau folks. They all impressed me with their care for citizens privacy. I can only hope those guys are still there.
@lemgandi @eff @newyorktimes If people, particularly those who have to worry about ICE, are afraid to be counted in the next census, the effect will be reduced representation for states with lots of immigrants: the number of people in a congressional district is based on the population of that district, not a count of the U.S. citizens in that district.
@bzdev @eff @newyorktimes Yep. That's one of the reasons for the emphasis on privacy. It directly affects accuracy.
@eff @newyorktimes Palantir is probably the most evil tech company in the world and I'm including the Chinese ones.
@Luna @eff
Oh there are many Palantirs among Chinese companies, they're just never heard of (or was not known for this specific business) until someone contacted foreign press or leaked the data online.
And there's no way to see, those deals in China are never made public, so no one can ever know.
@Orca @eff True but they are mostly contained to China.
@Luna @eff
... Does it make them less evil if they only harm Chinese people?

@eff @newyorktimes

We will all become liars--like you-know-who.

@eff @newyorktimes

The result of that crisis of trust will be magnificent to watch (from here in Canada).

Apparently, nobody in Congress reads anything but their horoscope. This was foretold way back in 1967 in a story in The Atlantic: “The National Data Bank.”

#Billionaire Peter Thiel supports #trump & Chairs #Palantir. Some #German federal states oppose using Palantir software for prosecutions out of fear of "influence by foreign states" & do "not intend to equip their police authorities with Palantir software".

Palantir: Growing resistance to US big data software for the police

Some federal states oppose using Palantir's data platform for prosecution. The Greens may take legal action if needed.

@eff @newyorktimes Opportunity missed? #Palantir and #PeterThiel are at the very heart of the #NetworkState project (also see #Project2025) intent on ending liberal democracy and indeed USA as a republic.

It also strikes me as insane to have Palantir involved in #EuropeanDefence projects. In fact most of the new military startups in the USA are intimately linked to the fascist-leaning #techbros... 😬

@demi7en @eff Actually it makes complete sense. From #Thiel to #Trump to the EU, there's just a lot of "German" going on these days.

EU''s Ursula #vonderLeyen comes from a right-wing German/American family. Born as Ursula Albrecht, she's part of an old rich, influential (and very bad) merchant family.

For a few generations now they are German/American. And just like the Germans, the US Ladson family is quite bad too: White supremacist merchants who got rich and famous using slave labour.

@eff @newyorktimes

Imagine the 1930’s, 40’s #Nazis but with data centers, 21st century technology. Wait… we don’t have to imagine.

@eff Starmer in uk has apparently given them access to uk health records. Trump says he's for the people. I think thats bs
