@noelreports I've been saying this for a while: Europe (incl. Ukraine of course, front of the line) needs distributed and localized *mass-production* of APKWS-2 type shortrange (air-to-air, and air-to-ground if required) missiles and suitable IR and/or laser homing circuits. The cost can come down to match the cost of $10-20K hostile assets. Using $1-2.5M legacy missiles, which would run out in days trying to down these high volume threats, would not only be insanely wasteful as first line defence, but they would simply run out in days and leave us with nothing when high-end weapons appear...
Until the 'planned' autonomous loitering platforms become available Europe can also build manned twin-engine turboprop aircraft with data links and IFF to patrol and carry pods of "APKWS-II like" air defence missiles.
Incidentally both russia and china are buying plenty of such aircraft (even from Europe) and they've even got factories building copy engines for them, despite lacking any notable civil aviation scene... 🤔
Since the 1980s the PRC party-state has subsidized the building of the world's largest merchant ship armada, wrangling control over global sea transport while progressively killing off much of dockyard capacity in Free World countries.
WIth those 'democratic docks' largely abandoned and falling into disrepair by the 2000s, the PRC regime easily switched their container ship manufacturing capacity towards building warships on a massive scale.
Moreover the PRC's massive existing container ship fleet can also be converted with minimal effort to serve the Party's military objectives.
In fact if I wanted to paralyze the enemy even before declaring war I'd equip that container fleet to wreak havoc at enemy ports, coastal assets and sea lanes across the world...
Belligerent dictatorships do not tend to observe diplomatic conventions or the rules of war when they deem their time to strike has arrived.

There needs to be a way for the great majority to suspend and ultimately 'let free' regimes that are clearly and fundamentally hostile to the values of the EU.
