Another #FolderWeek post: two more thatched cottages. The second has just been re-thatched; if you look closely just above the upstairs window, you might see that there are at least 3 different layers of thatch here! I love the fluid shapes that thatched roofs can have, but they must be seriously expensive to maintain!

I found a long-expired roll of Konica VX 200 Super colour film from a past Secret Santa, and decided to rate it at EI 50 and try some Intentional Camera Movement (#ICM). TBH it didn't really work out well, but maybe a few are worth showing. Crackley Wood...

I missed this roll of #Kodak200 from my #OlympusMju2. It's always in my jacket pocket, and when I'm out with black & white film and colour is called for, out it comes. I'm getting slightly better results now I remember to turn off flash in lower light frames! This roll was devved by Darkroom UK and scanned by me with Vuescan Pro; colours turned out better than I'd expected. I did scan a couple to RAW for inversion in @darktable but I've not tried that yet.

Birds on the wet ice on Abbey Lake.

Just checked the manual for @darktable #negadoctor. It says "When scanning or photographing your film negative, make sure you include some unexposed part of the film within the captured image. This is required to set the Dmin parameter..." Unfortunately, I just scanned the full frame as per usual (the #Plustek7500i film holders make it hard to do otherwise). I think this means I can't use negadoctor on these scans. Next time I'll have to remember to scan some of the un-devved leader...

Following a suggestion from @tomnorthfilm here's another icy Abbey Lake image in a panorama crop!

(Note, neither the title nor description I'd added to the IPTC metadata in C1Pro made it through to the Alt Text, as I had hoped after seeing a comment from someone else.)

Ah yes, it was @kaiser_photo who reported his metadata came through to Alt Text from NLP (Negative Lab Pro?) in https://photog.social/@kaiser_photo/114631693391207624

@carusb Yep! Negative Lab Pro. The plugin allows you to export photos with the film metadata concatenated into the caption field, I sought it out to be able to have film data on my private web albums. Was surprised to see my Mastodon app (Mona) picked it up.

@kaiser_photo Very interesting, thanks. I think it must be Mona that's pre-filling the #AltText for you. I use the Masto web app, no such luck.

BTW I couldn't find a caption field in the IPTC metadata fields shown by C1Pro, but I'd assumed it's either the Title or the Description field. Neither showed up for me! (PS, this page https://www.negativelabpro.com/guide/film-metadata/#why-add-film-metadata suggests that NLP adds its own metadata in parallel, which is good for some EXIF but pointless for IPTC, AFAICS!)

@carusb Aha, that makes sense. My Piwigo setup pulls the EXIF caption field.
@kaiser_photo @carusb The state of IPTC and EXIF support and display across apps is so frustrating, especially as it comes to digital scanning! I was trying to curate a system that would work for me for my website and just haven't gotten my head around it because I get frustrated each time I start 😂
I want to maintain proper alt text, but title, caption, and description are used interchangeably by so many different applications. Sorry for my unsolicited rant!
@shom @carusb Don’t be, you’re 100% right!

By the way, I've very belatedly realised that these mju II images were NOT dev/scanned by Filmdev as I wrote. That's my normal workflow with C41, but this time I had a bunch of B&W films going off to The Darkroom UK, who do great dev but very expensive scan. So I sent the Kodak for dev-only and scanned it myself on the Plustek 7500i with #Vuescan Pro. The results far exceeded my (very low) expectations! Maybe the VS settings are suited to consumer film? I think I should try scanning some more!

@carusb Really lovely! You are fortunate to live within walking distance of such beautiful scenes.
@tomnorthfilm Thanks. Yes, there's a lot of variety round here, but that view is normally pretty mundane! The advantages of being able to go back time and again are great.
@carusb @darktable That’s a gorgeous scene. Part of me thinks this would work nicely as a pano, cutting off the dark section at the bottom.
@tomnorthfilm I hadn't thought about a pano, but I suspect I wouldn't go that way; the reflections are a key part for me and they go almost to the bottom of the frame. Could probably lose a little off the top!
@carusb Right, you’d have to sacrifice the reflection to go pano.

@carusb The Mju2 was such a fantastic camera. The 35mm lens was crisp and sharp with neglectable distortion. Perfect for landscape and urban photography and hat great available light capabilities.

Years ago I wouldn’t leave the house without taking it with me. Great and rugged little camera. 🥰

@Dadmin Yes, I love mine. It's a good shape for the pocket, if a little tricky to open in winter with gloves on! I just get really annoyed by the flash ting...
@carusb 🤩
@exkclamation Thanks kc! I've done this a few times, usually in Spring as it works a bit better, but the hit rate is so low I think maybe I should buy a digital camera to make it cheaper!
@exkclamation PS every time I actually think of buying a digital camera, I realise how much film I could buy for that much money, and change my mind!
@carusb love this, looks like an oil painting!
