To my fellow #neurodivergent folks with ovaries: you know how your brain and body can work one way when estrogen is the dominant hormone, and a totally different way when estrogen drops? And by your 30s you don't love it but you're sort of used to it, and might even have gotten to a point where you mostly don't blame yourself for it anymore? ๐Ÿซ‚

Perimenopause is coming. It can last a decade or more, and begin in your 30s. It can mess with the neuro of it all, too, and *because* you've done so much to work to understand and optimize around your usual hormone cycle you might be less inclined to think it's a hormone thing, and start the blaming yourself cycle all over again.

So just an fyi, and please try to be gentle with yourself. โค๏ธ

@LauraLangdon Thanks. So far the ride hasn't been too bad, but it's still not exactly fun.
@LauraLangdon I'm on that journey right now and I swear I'm so much more autistic than I was in my 30s. For example the labels on clothes thing seems worse than ever!
And the tenuous equilibrium i thought i had with socialising has completely gone out of the window. ๐Ÿ˜”
But i really do have a thing for cake. Cake gets me through.
@LauraLangdon I am 45 and I still can't understand my cycles. My husband is more perceptive than myself ๐Ÿ˜…
@Cattz I have a friend whose husband tracks her cycles himself so that when she's like "Why is everything awful?" he can say "Would it be helpful to know your period should start soon?"
@LauraLangdon I always have problems with my cervical screenings appointments as I don't know when I am on my cycle and usually I need to cancel several times ๐Ÿ˜…

@LauraLangdon Oh yes! Be aware because itโ€™s not an easy roadโ€ฆ And it makes it harder because so many of us learn about their neurodivergence being right in a middle of this hormonal storm.

@LauraLangdon Thank you so much for sharing this important message ๐Ÿ’—
@LauraLangdon Iโ€™m in my early 50s (and yes, still having regular cycles) For the past few years itโ€™s like the hormones have turned up to 11. Never had issues before but whew! Why am I so cranky and canโ€™t sleep? *checks calendar* OHHHH! Itโ€™s like reverse puberty lol
@steggy I've heard that! I'm not there yet myself, but my sister's ten years older and fills me in. Why do we have to do puberty twice?!
@LauraLangdon Since they've finally started researching the estrogen-dopamine connection, we're finally starting to get some solutions. There's boosting meds as necessary during the cycle, although for me that was always like throwing darts at a moving board. My favorite solutions is getting on and staying on the pill with no off weeks. Evens things out nicely. #adhd

@holly I'm so glad you have something that works for you! Unfortunately progesterone is a nightmare for me; it does even things out but it does so by making things consistently bad, like every day is a worst day.

If I could have estrogen all the time to even things out that would be AMAZING! But I have a uterus, so I can't get an estrogen prescription. ๐Ÿซค
