Mastodon for Apple II (][+, //c, IIe, and IIgs)

A Mastodon client for the Apple 2

[email protected]
p.s. Using Mastodon through even more retro platforms may be possible. If the platform has a web browser, it might be worth seeing if it works with the minimalist web client Brutaldon: https://brutaldon.org
Brutaldon

A brutalist, web-1.0 web client for Mastodon and Pleroma. Supports text-only browsers like Lynx, older browsers, as well as the latest mainstream browsers. All JavaScript is completely optional and progressively enhances the core application.

@FediTips Go even more retro. There are a number of command line clients for Linux. I have one from the Debian Bookworm repository called toot... ๐Ÿ˜€
@FediTips not going to lie, it would be hilarious to try that out with my 3DS
@FediTips so, I figured some things out...
1. I forgot to hack my Japanese 3ds XL
2. I cannot use the Internet with it unless I install an update
3. I'm not in the mood to find a SD card to hack my console, because I never got one when I ordered it...

@FediTips on the upside though, turns out the console has a few Japanese demos hiding on it, so I'm going to see how far I can play through them without losing my shit

Edit: turns out there's nothing actually installed, just junk tiles that mean nothing

@FediTips Very cool, but I'm holding out for Minitel Mastodon.

Wet-Dry World

@halcy @iotar

Oh wow, teletext! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

@FediTips DOStodon? lol, I might try one of these.
@paburu feel free to ask for help if you run into problems...
@thatmark unfortunately no. The only thing I kept was the lampshade iMac and the Xserve.
@MrMurphy
The lampshade never impressed me. But man, they gave up too soon on Xserve.
@thatmark the lamp shadesโ€™s thermal design and unintentional faraday cage were amazing
@FediTips Paging @LoadingReadyRun so they know to switch to the C64 Mastodon client ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ
@FediTips MS DOS, that's a logo I've not seen since...
@FediTips Great to hear that the best Apple computer ever built can run Masto ๐Ÿ˜
@FediTips pfft, who needs tha-PALM OS?!!! DOWNLOAD IMMEDIATELY!
@FediTips my client for win9x is more complete than what you promote, but i guess this is yet another place where amount of stars matters more than actual codeโ€ฆ

@domi

Sorry, I didn't know about yours! I'll add it to the list.

@FediTips Mastodon for workgroups is pretty much the best name ๐Ÿคฃ
@FediTips I still have a few unused W95 CDs and licences in the drawer...
@FediTips One of these days, I'll try getting the Apple ][+ version working. It looks both ridiculous and cool.

@FediTips

Bet you can't say that about BSKY

@FediTips

Dostodon; "A Pentium 133 or faster with at least 32MiB of RAM is recommended."

That is a lot of machine!
What hardware will it actually run on?

@kim

I think would have to ask the developer @dec_hl

Maybe they can help?

@kim

I think someone got #DOStodon running on a 386 with 9MiB.
They used a TLS proxy though, because the 386 is to slow to do the SSL handshake and the server closed the connection.

You can try a 486 with 66MHz and 8MiB RAM if you are adventurous and have lots of time.

Anything Pentium and 16MiB should work, but is quite slow...

@FediTips

@FediTips Last I checked DOStodon also has the nice added benefit of compiling under Linux for use as a nice terminal tooter
@FediTips ๐Ÿ‘€ @inlovewithpda Did you already try the #PalmOS version?
@FediTips wow, how cool is that??!!
@FediTips
If only I had a network adapter for the ancient Olivettiโ€ฆ
@FediTips Windows CE badly needs a Mastodon client
@karpour @FediTips
And afterwards it needs to be buried deep back into whatever forgotten storage closet in which it was found.
@bruce @FediTips or you could just let people enjoy things..?
@FediTips am disappointed that #risc_os is not represented. ๐Ÿฅบ

@FediTips this list is missing something

RISC OS

@xerz

If someone knows a RISC OS client I'll add it. I had a quick search and couldn't find one?

@FediTips Iโ€™m actually considering something at the moment

@FediTips does mastodon for GNU Emacs count as retro computing?

Not sure how that works for 40 year old software if it's still being developed...
