I would die with honour at the hands of a fool

@stavvers

Musk aside, we had times here in the city of Heidelberg with ~5000 kids born each year, where we could have filled primary school classes just with kids of the same name:

2 classes each of Pauls, Noahs, Felix' and Leons
1.5 classes each of Emilias, Emmas, Milas, Sophias, and Maries...

@stavvers in my primary 7 class (age 10/11) there were three boys with the same name. David Hamilton. Nicknames were essential, yes? Yes, but all three had the same nickname - Hambone. Therefore they became Hambone 1, Hambone 2 and Hambone 3
@stavvers and let them all use alex.smith@something.something as an e-mail ! (Poke @LegalizeBrain )
@stavvers Oh, Mother of God! I read through all of that except the last paragraph before I remembered how Im supposed to be extra wary of distractions when I don’t want to finish getting ready for work…
@stavvers have these people considered that they might live in different countries or areas, or work in different industries?
@stavvers finally some good shipping discourse
@stavvers Also i think they should make human size boxes for me to sit in
@stavvers
That is a thing of beauty.
@stavvers that last guard is me

@stavvers related little fun fact, "Iceman" from Top Gun was based on Deniz Tek from iconic Australian punk band Radio Birdman, which just add another delicious layer.

@paramnesiac @stavvers

"his time as a flight surgeon in the United States Navy inspired Top Gun filmmakers, as his callsign was 'Iceman' and producers visited his squadron to do research.

"I was very surprised when the movie came out, and it had an 'Iceman' in it. And I tell ya, it ruined the callsign from then on - it was just terrible. Like, thanks a lot, can I just be Doc or something like that now?""

Is Radio Birdman's Deniz Tek the original 'Iceman'? - ABC listen

From original punk rocker, to naval officer, to emergency department surgeon, Deniz Tek has lived many remarkable lives.

ABC listen

@craige @stavvers HA!

I've been lucky enough to see him with the Birdmen (when they reunited in the late aughts) and with his own band, but hadn't heard this story.

Thanks for the ABC link. I'll give that a listen.

@stavvers Changing the name of the chat to 'Gravy'.
@stavvers this is the plot of 'All Fours'

@stavvers fights in the littlespace community are heating up it seems :D

@stavvers

Toyota Camelot sounds pretty legit

@stavvers is this how we ended up with the car industry ruling all of Germany

@schratze @stavvers I'm so old, I remember when German trains has a reputation for being extremely reliable.

There were still cars bloody everywhere.

@celesteh @stavvers the car industry has ruled us for over a century at this point.

There were fewer cars and they were smaller and lighter, but they were less efficient, the gas was full of lead, and the concept of pedestrian zones didn't exist yet. Things were bad in a different way

@stavvers I can’t say it wouldn’t be an improvement, over the current monarch. Could it get elected POTUS, too?
@stavvers
a toyota's a toyota (and the king of england)
@stavvers
Mike's Toyota-based dentistry scares me.

@stavvers that would be an improvement really...

A functionally useful monarch? inconceivable.
