August is #SayVaginaMonth. It is a topic we must be discussing. Thank you to Saundra Pelletier who started this movement.... No more vague language for women that: âPregnancy is a miracle. Menopause is a mystery.â (because we simply have never studied it...) I want to share my personal story: In my life I experienced 2 miscarriages, both times I was told, this just happens. I learned we spent more money studying miscarriages in race horses, than we did in miscarriages in women. I let it pass...they said - keep trying - and we did and I am fortunate to be a mom of 3. It has been years since I have really thought a lot on that experience, but I experienced a similar one recently, at a different phase in life: Earlier this year, when I first started noticing changes, disrupted sleep, shoulder pain, brain fog, mood swings and exhaustion that felt unfamiliar, I did what I always tell others to do: I saw my doctor. I explained what I was feeling. I suspected it might be hormonal, related to perimenopause. The solution offered? A prescription for antidepressants and gabapentin. There was no real conversation about menopause. No lab work. No discussion of hormone therapy. And Iâm a nurse. As I stood to leave, my doctor quietly turned off her medical scribe and said: âLook, to be honest, this is standard practice. But I know there are other ways, you might just need to speak with others.â So, I didnât fill the prescription. Instead, I started asking questions. I reached out to colleagues. I listened to other women going through the same transition. Thatâs when I found the Midlife Womenâs Health Clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital, a clinic led by nurse practitioners who were doing something different. They were recognizing the role of declining hormone levels in perimenopause and addressing them directly, with thoughtful, evidence-based care. Hereâs what the broader data tells us: - Nearly 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriages. (March of Dimes) -More than 1 billion women are currently in perimenopause or menopause worldwide (WHO). -Yet less than 2% of global medical research focuses on menopause (British Menopause Society). -73% of menopausal women experience symptoms that interfere with daily life (KFF Womenâs Health Survey). - And less than 4% of NIH research funding goes to female-specific health issues, including menopause (NIH Funding Analysis, 2023). The reality is - Women's Health needs to be addressed - because too often, we donât talk about it until women are already in crisis. #SayVaginaMonth is a call to treat womenâs health - across all stages of life - with the respect and resources it deserves to change the national narrative around women. We canât care for what we wonât name. We canât treat what we donât understand. And we wonât change outcomes unless we change the conversation. #SayVaginaMonth #NursesOnLinkedIn #HealthcareOnLinkedIn #Menopause #Miscarriages #WomensHealth
In my town there are 3 banks left, soon to be 2.
My mum banks with one that's still open, the one I bank with is closing in Sept.
I tried to make an apt for my mum so she could discuss options for a loan as she wants to replace the conservatory and can't afford to pay it all cash.
They offered to make her an apt with some one in the branch.
Then proceeded to tell me, she needed to bring her laptop with her and install zoom for the apt.
I looked at her and said 'she doesn't have a laptop, nor does she use zoom... she's 79yrs old'
She was unable to offer an actual solution that involved... actually making an apt with a person face to face. I left, telling them exactly how stupid and pathetic it was and that the treatment of people without expensive electronic devices, or unable to use them was discriminatory.
I walked around the corner to my bank and made a face to face apt for her with them... and they're the branch that's closing... But because she's not a customer of theirs, they couldn't offer her favourable rates.
My brother in law banks with Barclays... the nearest branch for his is now 35 miles away... in a tourist town with expensive and hard to find parking.
We need legislation that forces banks to participate in banking hubs, so that people have actual access to in person banking on at least 1 or 2 days a week.
Or we continue to punish anyone who can't or won;t participate in the enshitification of everything as 'undesirables'

Stop it. Stop trying to visit America. I am an American living in one of the most virulent MAGA states, and I am begging you to cancel any and all plans to visit the US. There is nothing, and I mean absolutely NOTHING in this country worth your safety or your life. This is not the America you remember. It is a Nazi zombie running on hate and cruelty and you are risking your life to give it even more money.
