Seriously, the LEGO Group ... what do you think you are doing? So, LEGO… | Thomas Baekdal | 37 comments
Seriously, the LEGO Group ... what do you think you are doing? So, LEGO actually has a page on their site called Diverse and Inclusive Workplace (https://lnkd.in/dCcWNjgN), so I decided to check if they had changed it and, if so, in what way.
First, I went to the Internet Wayback Machine to look up what this page looked like back in October, before Trump was elected. (https://lnkd.in/dKin6XRf) Back then, the page was very different from what it is now.
For instance, back in October, it said this:
> "LEGO® play is for everyone, and so is our workplace. The more diverse backgrounds we have represented within our business, who are each heard and valued, the more we will all contribute, thrive, and grow."
Now, it’s changed to no longer focus on creating representation.
> "LEGO® play is for everyone, and so is our workplace. We aim to create an environment where people from different backgrounds and cultures feel welcome and valued, and can succeed and grow together."
They also had a section about improving representation, where they wrote:
> "Improve representation"
> "Diversity is the visible and invisible dimensions that make each of us unique. We want our organization to reflect the diversity of the world we operate in and seek to inspire. Currently, we focus on gender, ethnicity, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people with disabilities."
> "We work on a range of initiatives to improve representation, from partnerships and outreach, to ensuring the language in our job listings is welcoming of everyone, and are continuously improving our people processes to ensure they are fair and equitable for all."
But today, this has been completely replaced by a new section called "Fostering a Sense of Belonging", where they write:
> "Each of us has visible and invisible dimensions that make us unique. We have a range of initiatives to encourage a sense of belonging, including ensuring the language in our job listings is welcoming to everyone, and are continuously improving our people processes to ensure they are fair and equitable for all."
In other words, they have completely caved to Trump's demands to remove any DEI focus.
As a customer for my entire life, I cannot express how disappointed I am in LEGO. LEGO has always been a force for good. It has always been a positive company. But now, apparently, it was just something you pretended, because as soon as someone threatened your bottom line, you removed that focus as if you never really believed in it in the first place.
I will not be buying anything from LEGO anytime soon, until LEGO's management shows that they have some integrity and backbone to stand up against. | 37 comments on LinkedIn
