By 'platform', do you mean opensource server software we can self-host and federate, or is this another centralized proprietary walled garden?

And if not FOSS, does anyone know of a kit that does what #mobilizon does, only correctly? πŸ˜…

@teledyn @mirlo i'm not familiar with #mobilizon , it looks a bit like @gancio ?

@mirlo is open source: https://github.com/funmusicplace/mirlo
I wouldn't know selfhost it.

There is development on #activitypub intergration: https://github.com/funmusicplace/mirlo/issues/146

Read more about their mission: https://mirlo.space/pages/about
You'll find a 'byLaws' document there explaining the cooperation.

For a Music Label site, I need …

- groups with sensible fediverse handles
- groups are site members only, assigned by admin
- membership added only by CSV or such
- members have a fediverse presence
- a Local feed and a site fedi acct
- events can be replicated and venue profiles stored
- toots look at least ok on other platforms
- template customization or theme that's not ugly πŸ˜…
- group calendars

My current #mobilizon prototype is https://avalonjazz.ca

@teledyn that sure would be convenient. Unfortunately i don't know a project that (will) tick all the boxes.

@moonshinebrigade

So far, #Elgg comes closest and there are 3rd party plugins that might help, and open architecture is always welcome, but in the present 0.3 edition of ActivityPub the group handles are awkward. The author is aware and likes the idea of separating real name from nick.

Elgg would also let me add sales etc later, but the templates, like mobilizon, are hard-coded. So not yet, but I'm watching their progress.

@teledyn cool, i didn't know about #Elgg , will look into that πŸ˜ƒ

@moonshinebrigade

#Elgg has a further advantage of friendly core people active on the fediverse 😊

@moonshinebrigade

Other than no templates and the long list of caveats and workarounds, #mobilizon would do all of what I need, if it worked. I believe it was originally meant for planning protests; music is our protest πŸ˜…

Sadly support collapsed years ago. A new agency recently took over, they released one update that then fucked up the calendar widget and have been busy on other things since. It was SO close 😫

I could do all this with ordinary WordPress, but where's the fun in that?

@teledyn that sucks, that the project stranded near completion (is software ever done?)

Gancio i also used by both activism https://calendario.extinctionrebellion.es/ and music events https://berlin.askapunk.de/

Thanks for pointing me to this conversation, Prince πŸ«…

I would love for Bandwagon to check all of the boxes on this. We just rolled out some big updates to events and search, so I feel we’re at least part of the way there. Plus, the whole thing is made to be extensible, so it β€œshould be easy” to make it fit what you want for music labels.

@moonshinebrigade @mirlo @gancio

My concept is each Label has a roster of groups and a roster of musicians where, in the Indie world, many bands share members and the lineup can change from gig to gig. So as we do now on Messenger, we can form ad-hoc groups to coordinate out of public view, share charts, tracks etc, but also field comments on the Band group; the Musical Group page is public facing for PR purposes.

Another want: multiple installations can federate to share calendars, files &c

I’d love to chat with you about this. I think Bandwagon is pretty close to this now, and I’d love to try and close the gaps.

@benpate @moonshinebrigade @mirlo @gancio

I'd be open to that, as my time permits. At my age, schedules are iffy πŸ˜…

I am not much interested in promoting music, I just want to connect musicians in the mundanities of being a band, and to help them converse with their followers. I'm wanting a social thing, not a commerce thing, but hey, if it could do commerce optionally too and that brings help, I'm in!

I also have no illusions any musicians I know would leave Zuck for me, but for MY bands …

@benpate @moonshinebrigade @mirlo @gancio

Right now, we use messenger such that when a gig is landed, we can individually check schedules until we have a lineup for ESO or AllAngels gigs, create agig from those who accept, send items, discuss, collect from meal orders, distribute the recording. That's all backstage instant message. Then we enter the gig on mobilizon, would be nice if it had the lineup.

The gig often has updates, esp if posted far ahead, so fedi updates. An IG kinda thing.

@benpate @moonshinebrigade @mirlo @gancio

I see an ecosystem like Stax or Motown, a stable of talent, the Label is a switchboard turning gig requests into events. Once upon a time the Musicians Union would do this, maybe still does, but not on #FEDIVERSE! 😊

And a hub might include surrounding hubs in their genre …

The public are not members, if so we'd make them play! No, it's closed to our roster, who could leave to another hub keeping their followers. The public is every Elsewhere! 😁

This all sounds pretty cool. It is A LOT, but could be an amazing integrated system if it all comes together.

I think everyone’s schedules are a mess these days.. but LMK anytime that works for you. I’d love to chat for a few minutes to better understand this problem. It might not be too far off of what Bandwahon and Emissary already do. If so, we might be able to make something without too much fuss.

Can I run Bandwagon on a debian 12 pi5 that's already thinking it wished some other evil scientist owned it?

I haven’t verified it personally, but I’ll bet it would - someone was even testing it on a raspberry pi. To get techie, the code compiles into a single fast/efficient binary. The only external dependency is MongoDB, so it *should* run just about anywhere.
