Hey Canadians: I just heard about two Canadian friends of a friend who were driving into the US the border agents demanded they unlock their phones; the agents searched the phones, found anti-Trump stuff on one ... ... then confiscated that phone and neither person was allowed into the US These folks weren't activists or anything -- the search doesn't appear to have been triggered by that so, govern yourselves accordingly

Sanctioning the GOP and anyone associated with Trump, Musk, or Vance

Declaring their passports "not valid for travel to the United States of America" to avoid having to send a military rescue team when someone gets taken hostage in this shithole country.

Ending diplomatic, sporting, and cultual relations with the US

Expelling American banks from the SWIFT payment processing system (as was done to Russia) and replacing any use of the dollar with other currencies such as the Euro.

Prohibiting all exports of strategic minerals, fossil fuels, weapons, or precursors to weapons to the United States or to any entity doing business inside the United States.

If the US attacks Canada (NATO member) or Greenland (associated with NATO member Denmark):

1: The rest of NATO invokes Article 8 to expel the United States

2: The rest of NATO invokes Article 5 to defend Canada or Greenland. Back this up with action not just talk!

As a US citizen I'd travel to Canada several times each year in the 00s. The major crossing point always had some jerk of a border guard who acted like they were Jason Borne protecting the free world.

Now that the chains are off I can only imagine how they are acting.

Seriously, as a white cis guy I loathed coming back to the states at a major border crossing.

The Canadians, however, felt like the police you'd find working security at the fair. Stern yet helpful.

@GrimmReality oddly, the only other news source Google would give me for their names was the Daily Mail; they include some links and also list several other border horror stories.

The Mail claims the girls lacked any accommodation reservations, and planned to stay a week longer than the statistical norm for German visitors. One commonality in these stories is the accusation they are entering the USA to work illegally.
