The Debian Publicity Team will no longer post on X/Twitter. We took this decision since we feel X doesn't reflect Debian shared values as stated in our social contract, code of conduct and diversity statement. X evolved into a place where people we care about don't feel safe. You are very much invited to follow us on https://bits.debian.org , on https://micronews.debian.org/ , or any media as listed on https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Publicity/otherSN #debian
@debian Thank you for making this move.
@debian so happy to see my favorite Linux distro making this choice. Thank you.

@debian Will this account be promoted to official status?

Teams/Publicity/otherSN - Debian Wiki

@debian as slow moving as ever ;-)
I assume the debian sid team has left years ago?
Any plans to also drop Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, and any other proprietary social network in general?
@debian could you please go to https://openportability.org/ to tell the platform about your account on X / Masto / Bluesky (if applicable) so that other people who migrate can follow you automagically? <3

@debian Good decision. TBH, I had no idea you even were on Twitter.
@debian Debian's social contract is why I prefer debian to all other linuxes.
@debian Debian is the best and has always been the best. And even better for this.
@debian
Now do Meta's spyware "services" since they want to censor any post mentioning anything Linux.
Same goes for Reddit (no longer open-source since at least 2017), HackerNews (closed-source), LinkedIn and GitHub (owned by Microsoft and closed-source as well).
@debian Can you do the same thing for Meta profile please?
Chiques, Debian se fue de X. Siganlo en @debian
@debian Better late than never! (Though I will say it is very late, making most of the "reasonings" sound very shallow.)
@tyil debian only decides after quite a lot of deliberation and contemplation. therefore we're generally not very quick. :)
@joostvb I get that, but as a free operating system, Twitter has never aligned with Debian values from my perspective. It's not like Twitter only recently became a proprietary platform with a severely negative impact on society, it has been this way since its inception.
@debian thanks hugely from me for giving me my best GNU/Linux experience for all these years! Amazing and important project! Also, I once had a curry with Ian Jackson (had to be said!)
@debian good decision, thank you for making it.
@debian sad but correct decision use #mastodon or try to get a #pixelfed account?
@debian yay! Any news on Bluesky at all?
@debian @augustocc seguindo o exemplo do br-linux

@aliceigl exatamente! alinhadíssimos!

inclusive uso :)

tu usa fedora, não é isso?

@augustocc troquei do fedora pro debian mesmo! resolveu todas as minhas dores de cabeça ;)
@aliceigl ahaha ontem eu comentei com a Fabi como é impressionante como eu e tu somos alinhados
@debian Thanks for supporting libre social networks, I appreciate this.
@debian It really sucks that this is a step that has to be taken, given how big that platform is, but I completely understand. Much of the content on Twitter these days seems to run completely counter to point 1 of the code of conduct (Be respectful). I deleted my Twitter some time ago after the Musk takeover because I couldn't scroll for more than just a minute without seeing hateful content from people I wasn't even following being "recommended" to me.

@debian

This is how you do it.

More people need to leave too.

#Debian #Linux

@debian It's great to see all these organizations coming around to making the right decision pretty much immediately after the consequences of their failure to do it when it was necessary manifest.

@debian I couldn't believe the replies on Twitter almost all of them calling this a woke move. Maybe all of them are bots?

Either way, fuckin A! Well done y'all!

@debian can you please be officially on Bluesky too, thanks :)
@gamingonlinux @debian if they really want a bluesky presence it'd probably be better to go through https://fed.brid.gy/, makes it so they can post to bluesky without having to do double the work!
Bridgy Fed

Bridgy Fed is a bridge between decentralized social networks like the fediverse, Bluesky, and web sites and blogs.

@gamingonlinux @debian whats good about bluesky that mastodon does not offer.?
@quantum @debian it has the people i actually want to follow, and far more users
@gamingonlinux @debian as a #Linux user yourself, never ever recommend anything proprietary again!!! 😡
