The #DOJ has ordered its #CivilRights division to halt ANY ongoing litigation from the #Biden admin & not pursue ANY new cases or settlements, acc/to a memo sent to the temporary head of the division that was obtained by WaPo. 
The letter instructs Kathleen Wolfe — designated by the #Trump admin as supervisor of the division — to ensure that civil rights attorneys do not file “any new complaints, motions to intervene, agreed-upon remands, amicus briefs, or statements of interest.”

GOP lawyer fights California governor on stay-at-home orders

The Republican lawyer leading the fight against California's stay-at-home orders has a long history of taking on free speech and civil rights cases. Harmeet Dhillon has filed more than a dozen lawsuits challenging pieces of Gov. Gavin Newsom's various virus-related orders, though she has yet to get a victory in court. Dhillon, 51, is a lifelong Republican, member of the national Republican Party and a co-chair of “Women for Trump," a piece of the president's reelection campaign. She has emerged in recent years as the go-to lawyer for California Republicans. She says her virus-related lawsuits aren't partisan.

@davesdogmaggie @Nonilex It is prudent to assume plans for “special” federal police — probably not #FBI — are being prepared, if not already being implemented. The “Brown Shirt” equivalent are the Proud Boys and similar right wing vigilantes who do the intimidation work. At this stage in Hitler taking power, the Brown Shirts were being double-crossed so Hitler could convince the Generals not to resist, that he would not bypass them. Expected next: Night of the Long Knives.

What we'll find out very quickly is whether there is anyone with any integrity left in these Federal departments, and whether anyone would take a personal stand to make a statement in opposition

The net effect might be the same in the long run, but at least some resignations about this action specifically would let individuals leave with their honor intact

@FinchHaven @Nonilex Will any of them risk imprisonment, exile or worse? That’s what “taking a stand” will entail as a government official. I think most officials with power and integrity will resign. Others will either just keep their heads down (default behavior) and maybe a few will quietly resist.

@Nonilex Unfortunately this is not even unusual :-( the Civil Rights division is a political football that is only ever staffed and funded when Democrats are in the White House, otherwise even if it technically "exists" the positions remain unfilled until the next administration. There are a bunch of departments like that, eg there is supposed to be oversight of Farm Bureau funding loans for seeds since farming runs on all sorts of contingent finance, that is an empty office where they pile the complaint letters which are supposed to trigger investigations of discriminatory practice. It technically exists, but in practice it does not. Same for Civil Rights at DoJ
