Nearly 50 years after Argentina's 1976 coup that led to a repressive dictatorship, families are still searching for and burying the disappeared. Recently, relatives in northern Argentina laid to rest a young couple identified from a clandestine mass grave, showing both progress and limits in the search. Since 1983, many military officers have been prosecuted, but locating remains relies heavily on families and forensic teams. Over 1,600 remains have been recovered, and about half identified — far fewer than the estimated 30,000 disappeared. Silence from perpetrators and recent funding cuts continue to hinder the search for truth and justice.
