It's always a bit intimidating to arrive alone and late at the party but here we go, mastodon!

As an #artist and #researcher I critically examine #technology from a social, cultural and political perspective. I create projects that usually explore the transposition of #surveillance and control phenomenons happening on the #web into physical, material, and performed spaces.

As a #graphicDesigner and adjunct professor I focus on designing (& teaching how to design) #artistBooks #zines #experimental #publications and more recently #webtoprint publications. I'm also passionate about lightweight, #handmade and artistic #websites.

And finally, as a #french person who recently moved to #nyc and is chronically and anxiously online, I'm looking to make new (IRL) friends đŸđŸŒ»đŸŠ‹

#introduction

@estherbouquet hi! A propos of nothing, I tend to add my tags at the end of the post, on their own line

This way they are still useful for reach but they don’t deter readability, and Mastodon clients tend to present them differently

@estherbouquet Du coup curieux de tout ça bienvenue
@estherbouquet not late, and certainly not alone! Welcome! Your work looks fascinating, look forward to learning more about it :)
@estherbouquet We're just glad you made it. We need all the good people we can get.

@estherbouquet

Welcome! It occurred to me you might like to follow @grimalkina if you don't already! (for the tech/culture angle)

@estherbouquet Welcome, I'm sure you'll like it here! Mastodon certainly isn't perfect, but for "independent" social media, there probably isn't much better. Lots of really nice and interesting ppl!

And that said, it sounds like you won't be bored anytime soon, that's a lot of interests you have there 😁

@estherbouquet @mistertim Welcome! What a rich life you bring in with you.
@estherbouquet #fashionablylate is all good. Welcome. I'd say the #ds106 space might provide you with connections. Much art. Experimental. light. and handmade for sure.
@estherbouquet @kate Hello! I’m a researcher with a particular interest in zine-making and mental health - just trying to put together a supervisory team for a PhD looking at this

welcome @estherbouquet please let us know how you find your time here
@estherbouquet Welcome Esther. We're an autonomous collective of good willed spirits. May you find your people. I look forward to seeing your interpretation of our collective experience.
@estherbouquet welcome! And glad to see you've got the #hashtag thing 😾
@rupertcutler haha yes, maybe a little bit too much considering the amount of kind welcomes I got from so many different people and instances. But this is exciting! Happy to be here!
@estherbouquet better late than never. Welcome! 💜
@estherbouquet Welcome! We are happy to have you here, I think you will like it. As a graphic designer and sometime artist myself, I look forward to seeing your work and your posts and boosts if what you find interesting

@estherbouquet

Welcome! There are lots of very interesting people here. You are responsible for finding your folks.

What I do is when someone posts something interesting, I tap on their avatar image left of their screen name at the top of their post and look at their profile page. If they seem like interesting people, I follow them. If someone turns out to be not who you thought, you can unfollow them later. Follow lots of people starting out.

@estherbouquet Hello! From one artist to another :)

@estherbouquet Hi 👋 welcome to the fedi,
It’s not that bad as it looks sometimes :))

I’m a graphic designer, non-tech, Apple user, and here since 2022, and they couldn’t make me install Linux - so it’s all possible :D
(No advise to give, other than if you’re on iPhone install Ivory, asap)

@boby_biq thanks! i'm curious, what's the difference between Ivory and the mastodon app?
@estherbouquet Mastodon official app is.. not very good, to put it that way. Ivory is fun, and beautiful by the Tapbots people. Ivory also have built in gif button.
@estherbouquet Hello and welcome to both Mastodon and NYC, from one graphic designer / handmade website person to another!
@estherbouquet welcome to nyc! wherezabouts have you been hanging out so far?
@alanza thanks! I’ve been to the Center for Performance Research a couple of time, the last two shows I’ve seen were really really awesome. I’ve also been fascinated by the Clock, so I’ve been going to the Moma every time I’m in the area to see it haha
@estherbouquet omg, amazing! i haven't been to the center for performance research yet!

@alanza it doesn’t seem like they have a lot of upcoming events but I would subscribe to their newsletter if you are interested. I think they also offer subsidized rehearsal spaces throughout the year to support artistic creation. It’s a very precious space!

I saw on your website that you performed at Wonderville (that’s awesome! And I love this place!). Was it during WordHack or another kind of event?

@estherbouquet thanks for the rec! yeah, wonderville’s great! i’ve performed (music) there for the Brooklyn Experimental Electronic Music Meetup, for a livecode.nyc show, a one-off show a friend organized, and for Hex90! not for WordHack yet, but maybe someday :)
@alanza oh wow, i hope i'll catch one of your performance one day! let me know if you have anything planned in the upcoming months!
have your heard of the school for poetic computation (SFPC)? they are in nyc and have online 10-week classes every quarter and I feel like your interests and your artistic practice might overlap with the subjects they dig into🙂
@estherbouquet yes!! i’ve been casually keeping an eye on them. hoping to make the jump at some point :)
@estherbouquet welcome to New York City! Bienvenue!
