Men deserve better than having their gender used as cover for petulant, capricious and immature misbehavior.

What Does "Masculine Energy" Even Mean, Mark?

Mark Zuckerberg’s call for more “masculine energy” in corporate America is just a thinly veiled attempt to rebrand being an asshole

The Index.

@Daojoan @theindex

men exhaust me

men-children completely wipe me out

just stop the nonsense and hire qualified therapists - all this assholes can afford a team of therapists

@Daojoan @theindex he looks like he should retire to Boca Breeze phase 4 powered by AI

.
normal people hate this - but it means violence. Of COARSE it means violence. What needs code? Just crime, right?

Last I knew masculinity isn't being set for life and kissing some doughy orange man's butt. What do I know, my net worth is negative.

@Daojoan @theindex
"Alleged"? Thought the courts determined that it was more definitive than just "alleged"?
@Daojoan @theindex Great article and absolutely true! Thank you for saying that.
@Daojoan @theindex thank you for writing and publishing that.

@Daojoan @theindex 💯THIS⬇️

“He's not calling for more masculine traits. He's calling for permission to emulate #trump 's brand of toxic leadership w/o facing the social consequences.

He wants the freedom to slash diversity programs, lay off 1000s & still be celebrated as a "bold, masculine leader" rather than being called what he is: a pwrful man using gender as a shield for his worst impulses.”

@Daojoan @theindex We really should be using their “AI” to generate deep fakes of all the tech bros in caretaking roles for some proper masculine energy.

@Daojoan @theindex ngl, you lost me at "men deserve".

(I read the post, I think "being an asshole" always was the dictionary definition of "masculine energy")

@Daojoan The entire world deserves better than rich billionaire frat boys spewing nonsense.
@Daojoan @theindex The proper name for it is masculine woo-woo.
@Daojoan @theindex Thank you for writing this! As a man, I find it all incredibly embarrassing… so of course I had to write about that: https://findthethread.blog/Sad-Masculinity/
Sad Masculinity

Mark Zuckerberg has always been a personality void. Of all of the criticisms I could level against Elon Musk, that is not one: he is always aggressively himself. But “Zuck” always comes off to me as someone scrabbling to justify a success he does not understand and, deep down, feels that he has not earned.

@Daojoan @theindex being socialized as male in American society can mean a lifelong pursuit of unlearning toxic behavior and opinions or embracing them and perpetuating them. We can guess which one Mark chose. [Edited for grammar]

@Daojoan @theindex

it means incels like him should be given their due without having to actually do ANYTHING TO DESERVE IT.

@Daojoan @theindex I'm pretty sure it means MZ is going to follow the toxic masculinity mindset until it destroys his companies as well.

@Daojoan @theindex @vanderwal that opening paragraph gives me the wiggins. Especially the bit about aggression in martial arts.

I learned and taught traditional taekwondo for 16 years. At no point was the externalisation of aggression, except in the context of displaying one’s skills for others to learn from or assess, an acceptable behaviour. Martial arts are about learning control, containment, and stillness, even in the moment of delivering the most destructive of techniques.

If Zuck is learning what I’ll term “Cobra Kai” style martial arts, he has terrible teachers. It’s the antithesis of good martial arts. That said, I’m utterly unsurprised that his kind of tech bro digs that approach.

@trib @Daojoan I took Renbukai in junior high and high school and it was also the polar opposite of what was described.
@vanderwal @trib @Daojoan I was thinking this very thing. If the only "martial arts" he appreciates is what he's seen in the movies (especially the "bad guys"), then he's got no clue.
@trib @Daojoan I've rewatched the a chunk of the interview (first and second watching wasn't intentional, but auto-play when a background focus video ends and the interview or summaries follow it) and there is so much that is just mangled thinking and understanding. He's not known for being someone who has serious depth of understanding nor strong vision for long paths forward, but this is even more odd.
@Daojoan @theindex Isn't the point of REAL martial arts to avoid fighting, though you must be able to defend yourself and win if you cannot avoid fighting? I am a re-newbie to it, but I cannot recall any martial arts that say "go pick fights with others so you can take out your frustrations on them." Martial arts is mental FIRST, isn't it?
@Daojoan @theindex Nice read, it had to be said. I am glad you said it.
