This German meme was just brought to my attention and I feel obligated to reshare it here

Frohe Weihnachten

@nileane
This is the content I came here for 👍
@nileane
Video focuses on a cannon in a field.
[Crack-a-thoom!] The cannon fires.
A Christmas tree flies through the air and lands in the field fifty meters away.
Cut to a white German guy with gray hair and a pronounced widow's peak.
German guy [in German, with English subtitles]: "So this is a Christmas tree cannon, and it's there to shoot Christmas trees."
Interviewer, off-screen: "And the sense behind that?"
[beat]
German guy: "I ask myself that too."

@nileane Is he drunk?
@gilberto @nileane He is. He‘s gluing together the words.
@gilberto @nileane probably. He German, it’s Christmas. Must be.
@nileane This is soo hilarious and ridiculous and yet, tells so much about German „culture“ at the same time on so many levels. I mean this guy is clearly drunk and frankly admits that there’s no sense behind it but he built it anyway - a cannon that shoots x-mas-trees.
The more I think about it the more I get aware of the dark truth behind this. But for now I decide to laugh about it and say: „Thanx for sharing and: frohe Weihnachten to you, too!“ 🥹😂👋

@radiyan @nileane it's fun to make things go boom!

@radiyan @nileane that explains why no one takes the Hessians seriously. Their dialect has a slight slurred sound, so people assume they are intoxicated.

@nileane
The sense behind that?

Uhh, because you can shoot Christmas trees. Obviously.

@nileane
If he didn't do it, someone else would.
@nileane fuck i love the christmas tree cannons
@lynn @nileane yeah me too, lets build one

@nileane German engineering in a nutshell. No vision, no talk of disruption, just "I wanted to"

@G33KatWork @nileane I love how even he can't refrain from laughing after saying that.
@G33KatWork @nileane oh my gosh I love the title they put under his wife's name - "an einiges gewohnte Ehefrau" - "wife who is used to a lot"
@nileane one village next to mine! So proud of creative people of Hessen.

@nileane
Why? - Because.

German engeneering in a nutshell.

@grownz @nileane I mean, there is no need for more!
@nileane "We have always done it this way" or "Tradition!" could be a perfect explanation for that. At least it does not pose an immediate threat to our neighbors.

@nileane and they say the perfect Christmas gift doesn’t exist

@nileane
There are some weird and hilariously funny people here in Germany. 😂👍🏼

Love the creativity and the total lack of need for it to make any sense. 🥸💥

@nileane Hilarious, in a German sort of way.

Also, I hear his last comment as "Weiss nicht auch.", which could also translate as "I don't know either." Great timing though. :D

@talexb the last comment is "frag' ich mich auch" (the full sentence would be "Das frage ich mich auch"), so the subtitle is quite accurate.

Interesting that it comes through like that to your ears.

@olafk Ugh -- well, I haven't heard German regularly in 40+ years, and my hearing's not what it used to be. Thanks for the explanation.
@talexb @nileane Well, he‘s saying: „Frage ich mich auch.“, which literally translates into „Ask I me, too.“, or - as in the subtitles: I ask myself that, too.
@nileane oh, thanks. This made my day :D
@nileane
Thank you for your service. o7

@nileane *giggle* He doesn’t know what the Christmas Tree Cannon is for!?

Ebenfalls frohe Weihnachten!

@nileane Obviously, he's trying to take the offensive in the librul 'War on Christmas'!
@nileane Here's a newer report with an enhanched canon form january 2024: https://www.hessenschau.de/tv-sendung/weihnachtsbaumkanone-in-muenzenberg,video-192364.html

Boah, das kannte ich noch gar nicht.

Sehr geil 😁🤘🏼

@nileane The answer very likely is: it seemed like a good idea at the time (*)

And?

He said it seemed to be a good idea at the time."

@nileane They should try firing fruitcakes.
Maybe not, they’re potentially lethal.
