When I need help resolving technical issues, I prefer using IRC. I like how you can quickly connect anonymously and usually get an response to your question quickly.

So it is all XMPP on my end, but might not be on theirs...

My brother and older sister only use voice phone-calls, my younger sister uses that in addition to plain text sms messaging and old-fashioned plain-text email. My friends, those of them that use the Internet, I connect with via Telegram or Mastodon.
