So after doing a ton of research I went and splurged on a new wireless cooking thermometer for myself. Too late for Thanksgiving but I’m gonna use the heck out of it at Christmas.

Typhur Dual Sync. It has 2 probes, both an app and a display base. Really good quality, heavy metal feel, display is easy to read. Will compute cook time remaining, charges by USB-C (no batteries to replace) and the base acts as an extender to get your temps to you from up to 1000ft. Cant wait to try it!

Testing the accuracy of the new Typhur Dual Sync thermometer. Spoiler alert if you don’t want to sit and watch digits slowly change: it’s pretty darned accurate!

Okay this is COOL. I put the probes in two pork chops to go in the sous vide bath and then I set the target temp on the stand (which was perfectly dead simple to do, no muss, no fuss), and as soon as I hit GO on the stand my Apple Watch buzzed me with the current temps. I did not have to launch an app on my iPhone at all to get this to work. It was totally magical.

Then I got time to completion notifications. 😍

This is how it should be. It just “works” with no friction or setup. SO GOOD!

@gedeonm I love it when things just work with the ecosystem…

@gedeonm that’s really cool.
Thought, the remaining cooking time could also be in the notification instead of just saying you can look it up.

Maybe I will buy one of those next year when we are starting bbq again.

@stefan Yeah, agreed. That estimate is supposed to get more and more accurate the longer it goes, maybe that’s why? Unsure.
@gedeonm how long do the batteries in the probes last? And isn't it a fire hazard to put batteries in a hot oven? Can it last long enough to cook a turkey?
@tapforms Since the probes charge whenever they are in the base they are always good for when you cook (or so it says). The charge on the base is supposed to last for weeks at regular use but I’ve yet to know for sure. There’s no time limit on how long the probes can be in use that I know of. You can even put them in a fryer (good to up to something like 800°) it’s crazy.

@gedeonm

Why this over Meater?

@kraigschmidt The base (metal not bamboo) charges via USB-C, not AAA batteries that have to replaced. Longer range away from the base. I also like the simpler, less gaudy UI of the Typhur app than the Meater one. 🤷‍♂️
@gedeonm Looks nice! There are tons of great options out there now.
@gedeonm This looks really cool. Just trying to figure out, are you meant to leave the probes in during the entire cook or only towards the end as you’re nearing your target temp? It says it can withstand some very high max temperatures for a short-ish time, but say you throw a turkey in the oven at normal cooking temperatures like 350-450, can you have them in the whole time?
@dmnelson Yes, they stay in the whole time. Gonna be fun!
@gedeonm Very cool! Tempted to get this as an early Christmas gift to the fam so we can use it this year. 🎄
@dmnelson it had great reviews but I’ve not had a chance to try it yet.
@gedeonm Oooh, will be very interested in hearing your experience. My wife was lamenting her wired thermometer over Thanksgiving. This looks like a really nice upgrade!
@gedeonm Looks very fancy, even though I thought it was a radio when I saw the first image without reading the text 🫣
@j @gedeonm Haha, yeah it does look kind of like a fancy radio or MP3 player.
@dmnelson @j ZUNE!!
@gedeonm @dmnelson So modern! Will probably be a huge hit with the kids!
@gedeonm damn I thought this was an mp3 player and I was so excited haha
@gedeonm please let us know how this goes! I’d be interested.
@jeffcgd Yep for sure I’m interested too! 😃
@gedeonm this thing is so good! In a world with too many device apps being able to use it by itself is a blessing. The standalone folding probe is great hardware too
@via In using it now and I’m already in love. It’s great!
@gedeonm 169 USD for a thermometer 🤪 agreed, it looks fancy.
@Marknl Yeah was pricy but I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for. This feels like a good example.
@gedeonm I got mine about a month ago and so far so good. The temp displays not being touch screen still throws me but that’s a minor gripe. I got their meat thermometer at the same time which by itself was a major upgrade from my previous one
@Oiftikhar Yeah that’s gonna take a little getting use to but man I love how simple the UI is.
