Great to see many people receiving their @jolla C2 devices! While I was busy travelling last month across 3 continents for family reunion and conferences, I totally missed the "complete your order" email for mine, and just placed my order yesterday. Now I wait... Hope it arrives in time as a Christmas gift :)

#JollaC2 #SailfishOS

Got my #JollaC2 , thanks @jolla !!

@cybette The battery drained overnight from around 46% and the phone shut off. I've only added the Tooter app and email sync since the previous night (without drain). Suspect the latter.

#JollaC2

Edit: after 2 more days of normal battery drain I think it was just the initial sync taking too much battery juice. Looks ok for now.

@cybette very disappointed in the camera though, and I had low expectations to begin with. Went to a circus show over the weekend, couldn't capture anything decent with it. I know the lighting conditions are challenging, but #Finland is dark for half the year! Gotta wait till summer for decent pics? šŸ˜†

#SorinSirkus

No need to wait until summer, just gotta catch some light before the 3pm sunset!

Photo of the #Tampella factory area, the namesake of #SailfishOS 5.0 release. It's my hood <3

The #JollaC2 front camera though... Well maybe less selfies the better eh? xD

Size matters.

Why do most manufacturers think Pro Max Plus Ultra XL is the best? Do most users think the same?

Why do I drop my phone so much? Yes I'm clumsy, but when I can't even reach the middle of the phone, there's no way I can properly balance it. #SailfishOS gestures help but only up to a point.

If only the #JollaC2 was the size of #JollaC...

Despite the size, the #JollaC2 is a nice piece of hardware. I kinda wish @jolla offered the purple version of "Reeder S19 Max Pro S" though... I lol-ed at the name, let's stick with C2.

Display is bright enough (well, Finland is kinda dark now for proper testing), speakers are loud enough, audio quality meh, but I'll probably be using headphones (with 3.5mm!!)

There are problems with calls/texts but that should be fixed with the VoLTE update. Some people have already started using #JollaC2 as their daily driver: https://forum.sailfishos.org/t/feedback-on-jolla-c2/20462/680

^ Long thread in the forum, but good read if you are interested in the device. And a new batch of C2 is supposed to be available soon! https://forum.sailfishos.org/t/sailfish-community-news-5th-december-2024-the-next-c2-batch/21310

Feedback on Jolla C2

I’m so close to having a new daily drive (C2). The only thing missing is VoLTE. All others what I want is niceties. Thank you Jolla!

@cybette Frankly, the old UI 1.x gestures indeed helped, because they were vertically oriented, a natural direction for a thumb. Actually the very first feeling I had when I was exposed to 2.x UI was that the right to left and vice versa gestures made me feel I was about to drop the phone despite the device being a tiny Nexus 4.
@piero it did take a while for me to get used to the change, but now it's second nature. I just have to use Sailfish gestures for a short period of time before I start swiping on my android devices (and even ipad mini). The reverse doesn't happen, even if I use Android way more nowadays. The UI/UX of #SailfishOS just feels like "home" :)

@cybette Could it be that many people use their phone as primary or even only computing device? In that case, a device with little screen real estate might be a downside.

For me, a phone is still just a sidekick. Doesn't mean I don't want a performant one. Small, high end seems to be a thing of the past :(

I still use the Xperia XA2 vanilla, the smallest of the series. But also with the least amount of RAM :(

@RandySimons possibly, although most people I know with tablets / laptops (i.e. have other computing devices) still use a mega sized phone. is it coz they prefer the size or the lack of good options for smaller devices? 🤷

Asus #Zenfone series used to have some smaller yet decently specced devices (gen 8/9/10) but for gen 11 they went with Ultra. Maybe there's just no market for small high-end phones.

I had the #XperiaX which is just slightly smaller than the XA2. A delight with #SailfishOS :)

@cybette @RandySimons There are almost no small phones anymore. I would like to upgrade but hate these huge tablet sized phones, and can't find anything decent apart from apple products and I hate those as well.
I believe the market has reached maximum capacity for performance so they compete by making the screens largercand the devices slimmer. I absolutely makes no sense to me.
I want a phone I can put in my pocket and operate with one hand not a purse sized pc.
@useravoiding @RandySimons yeah I'm starting to consider flip phones as they are relatively small when folded (at least for now).

@useravoiding @cybette @RandySimons and even Apple doesn’t have regular sized phones anymore. Even the regular Pro is too big.

I’m in the reverse situation where I just can’t stand Android but I take it things are no better there.

@Setok @useravoiding @cybette @RandySimons I got an Android-based Walkman because I want my podcasts and audiobooks to be on a non-phone device and there are no more iPods.

Pros:
- it's a small device
- it has tactile buttons
- I can choose from all the Android apps out there

Cons:
- it's really underpowered, it takes about a minute to boot up
- it sometimes hangs and I have to reboot
- all the Android apps out there are bad compared to the iPod, and designed for a larger screen

@cybette @RandySimons for me at least it’s going to be a matter of availability. I’m still on my iPhone 13 Mini because Apple hasn’t brought out any new normal form factor phones. Everything is big and getting bigger. The Pro won’t fit in some of my pockets and the size is awkward for use.
@cybette
I Agree, I hate big phone, and that's why I had to buy a pixel 8 (non pro). With GrapheneOS, to limit the damage.
@flypig
@deedend @flypig the smaller pixels + graphene are indeed a good combination
@cybette ha memories of this area :)

@cybette this and lack for smart watch support are the main reasons why I’m not using phone with Sailfish OS anymore :/ Wish I could still live without those

@BastardRacoon

yeah it's unfortunate. The OS and UX are still so usable and enjoyable, but the lack of hardware support & compatibility limit the usefulness of #SailfishOS.

@cybette @BastardRacoon My biggest issue was that they happily sold OS for a phone without working echo cancellation.

That eventually forced me back to Android because having to answer all calls on loudspeaker is just dumb.

Well, so far my pattern seems to be a year of SailfishOS and then a 5 year break.

So, perhaps I'll be back in 4 years.

@chrastecky @BastardRacoon

I haven't been using #SailfishOS devices as my main phone in a long time, but I usually have one as a secondary device. Earlier today I was out running errands which took longer than expected. My Pixel9 was running low on battery & I needed to make a call so I tried it on the #JollaC2. Didn't work.

Luckily my #Pixel9 still managed the 15-min call in -6C cold at 8% batt. I don't make voice calls often so it wasn't the first thing I tested.. still a critical function!
