I was too traumatized by the US election and the Sask election results to even look up the tiny local elections that I just voted in here.

But I finally did, and I'm happy to see the anti-queer candidate in my school subdivision lost!

Plus, my very nice neighbour who we buy straw from every year won our rural municipality ward election! ...With 40 votes. Not *by* 40 votes, *with* 40 votes.

Rural politics is weird.

@sundogplanets Yes, our city election in Saskatoon is the best election in terms of results I have followed (and participated in) for a long time.
@sundogplanets
At least some small good news.
Thanx for that!
@sundogplanets in our little town we had an 80% turnout and Mr Orange got just 14%
@sundogplanets Our local elections went so much better than the presidential election! The last few years I have made an effort to research the local partisan and non-partisan elections very carefully. I used to just randomly pick city council members! 😬

@sundogplanets

Those local elections many people ignore are more important than national elections in many ways.

You actually know and live near your representative. You can express your opinions and concerns directly.

@sundogplanets I was looking at a rural local race yesterday that had something like 82 total votes.
@sundogplanets I covered small towns for 15 years at a regional paper. People in small towns are connected in multiple ways and imho it helps know better who to trust. When I wrote the stories about local races I kept that in mind, letting readers know where they could hear the candidates debate, or breaking down their campaign finance reports. I had no business ‘interpreting’ the race for them. There are so many interlopers between us and national candidates, it makes its own set of problems

@sundogplanets
It was very difficult to decide who to #Vote for in last week's #US #Election

#Donald #Trump stood on the platform of #Making #America #Great #Again and building an economy so strong that it would make you #Puke and send you to the ER.

#Kamala #Harris stood on the platform of "I'm not Trump!"

#USA #Politics #Democrats #Republicans #Democracy #Oligarchy #Absurdity

@photoncollector @sundogplanets Clearly, you are an ass. Don’t worry, I blocked you.
@sundogplanets we (.au) just had a local election in our most populous state where the main conservative party forgot to submit their paperwork on time and so a whole hunk of regional councils turned progressive with candidates elected unopposed.

@sundogplanets #ruralpolitics is definitely weird. Many moons ago I ran for the Parish Council. The were 5 candidates chasing 4 seats so voters got 4 votes each. I told my supporters to vote *only* for me.

I won with about 150 votes IIRC.
It was close: had my supporters' unused votes been shared among the other candidates, I would not have won.

I was branded a communist for using this tactic.
