I was too traumatized by the US election and the Sask election results to even look up the tiny local elections that I just voted in here.

But I finally did, and I'm happy to see the anti-queer candidate in my school subdivision lost!

Plus, my very nice neighbour who we buy straw from every year won our rural municipality ward election! ...With 40 votes. Not *by* 40 votes, *with* 40 votes.

Rural politics is weird.

@sundogplanets I covered small towns for 15 years at a regional paper. People in small towns are connected in multiple ways and imho it helps know better who to trust. When I wrote the stories about local races I kept that in mind, letting readers know where they could hear the candidates debate, or breaking down their campaign finance reports. I had no business ‘interpreting’ the race for them. There are so many interlopers between us and national candidates, it makes its own set of problems
