As long as I live, I will never understand why America would rather elect a singularly worthless white rapist as president than an exceptionally impressive black woman.
@Strandjunker
Because he's going to give them cheap gas...
Wait until the actual shit hits the fan next year and they are all standing around wondering how they are going to eat.
The idiots in this country are too stupid to even be worth saving.
@palin @Strandjunker I am amazed at how my fellow latino voters chose to be deported by this clown!

Dearborn: Voters in largest Arab American city back Donald Trump

Early results suggest voters in Michigan city used ballot box to express frustration over Biden administration's handling of Gaza war

Middle East Eye

@clintruin @sergiodomeyko @palin @Strandjunker

Because Dearborn's Arab Americans can be confident that Trump will be fair and even handed and has no reason to make things worse.
Oh wait...

"The Adelson family also own the right-wing Israel Hayom newspaper, is a resident of Tel Aviv, and regularly donates to illegal Jewish settlements in occupied Palestinian territories and pushed for US recognition of the occupied West Bank as part of Israel."

@sergiodomeyko @palin @Strandjunker Not surprising if you look at the Latin America's history, they like authoritarian leaders.
@ma_ui @palin @Strandjunker and then there is this? Where did at least 20 million votes go? It was a record year for new registrations and voters. Something smells fishy! Did the orange blog not say he did not need the votes that everything was taken care of?
I do believe he was telling the truth that they had messed with the election somehow.
#trumpIsAFelonForever

@sergiodomeyko @ma_ui @palin @Strandjunker

Yes, I also wonder about that, it does seem very rigged, it should have been at least close, given all of the (genuine) polls saying the same thing.

All those trump supporting tech billionaires would have had a few ideas on how to rig the voting...

@ma_ui @sergiodomeyko @palin @Strandjunker I don't think that's the case. A lot of those dictatorships were installed by the US or other meddling. Look at Zapatistas in Mexico or the long democratic traditions in many latam countries. Where the tradition hasn't been broken, there's no more authoritarian leaders than in the "west" in my opinion.
@cohentheblue I was thinking about "caudillos."
@ma_ui Western EU christians liked kings and dukes, islamic areas liked sultans ... There weren't a lot of democracy, anarchy or other nontotalitarian power structures going on outside of very small tribes, for a long time. The US wild west similarly regressed and the only difference was a more central power that happened to have more power took over from the local bandits, landlords etc. Even that was not successful, probably to a degree until this day.
@cohentheblue I agree about Western Europe, the roots of caudillismo are likely in the Spanish colonization. Catholicism had a big part in the idea of a strongman sent by god to fix things. And I think that's why, in countries like Spain and Italy, too many people still like dictators such as Franco and Mussolini. Also, immigrants, especially the older ones, tend to be more conservative.
@palin @Strandjunker so updating my beliefs on this situation. Where did 20 million votes go? There seems to be something fishy going on.
@sergiodomeyko
When you find out please let me know.
Almost 20 million people sat on their stupid asses and destroyed our Democracy?
@sergiodomeyko @palin @Strandjunker hey the final counts aren't in and there's more than 10M ballots to go. It'll be, like, a week before those final numbers are out.

@sergiodomeyko @palin @Strandjunker True the Vote is one big reason

Its goal was to get 2 million ballots (mostly from people of color)) rejected. They almost certainly suppressed more voters than that

@peterbutler @palin @Strandjunker Thanks for sharing this great write-up Peter!

@palin @Strandjunker That was actually one of my main indicators for the presidential election (it always is), and I was feeling pretty good because gas prices yesterday were 30 cents cheaper on average than last year at this time:

But nope

AAA Fuel Prices

@Strandjunker Because they got derailed by billionaire owned media.
@tobider @Strandjunker The billionaire owned nedia was awful and deserves our scorn, but they didn't lead these Trump voters anywhere they didn't already want to go.
@richard_merren @tobider @Strandjunker precisely - and the media barons are billionaires *because* people will pay to feed their own prejudices, thereby enriching them. The root of the problem lies in education
@Strandjunker literally racism and inferiority complex from shit parenting. The answer has never changed.
@Strandjunker Something to do with stupidity, igorance and entitlement.
@Strandjunker
People voted for their wallets. The current administration is very unpopular due to inflation and that messaging was not a winning one.
Harris only had months to share her message, Trump has had 4 years! This is huge and should serve as a lesson to the Democrats for the future. Trumps campaign did very good at circling the wagons with Republicans, and focus on "For Trump" messaging.
Media double standard didn't help.
Finally, fear sells and Trump is a very good fear monger!
@ReedsDad @Strandjunker The messaging carried by media misled them. Inflation is down, wages UP and the prices rose because of greed. Media ignored the greed. She had plans to continue prosperity and advance wealth for the middle class, but media just carried the complaints. He has no plans except to ruin it more than he ruined it last time. Media won’t ask them how they feel then. Stock mkt through the roof. Not good enough. Media yawned. The media carries the message. In this case, they lied.
@Catawu @Strandjunker
Not disagreeing with you at all.
The issue we have now is that the low information voters is the majority. And they vote based on feelings, not facts.
This cycle was a feeling of:
-Not making enough (inflation and income not matching up)
-Border/immigration (people in Michigan worried about illegals, that affects the daily life about zero percent)
-Media input (biased coverage to low info voter is persuasive)
-Changing candidates last minute is not helpful.
@ReedsDad @Strandjunker Media created low information voters. There was no truth standard. They both sides every issue. Would not print, broadcast proven crimes by republicans if they couldn’t match it on Dem side, which meant, no one heard about it. It was a circus. It brought them advertising revenue. People working their asses off to put a roof over their heads don’t have the time to search each days events over multiple sources. The ones they have, betrayed them.
Inflation is now about the same as it was under Trump - Kevin Drum

Not that it matters to anyone, but here's a way to look at today's inflation report: Inflation right now is within a hair of Donald Trump's average before the pandemic. The pandemic created the surge and the pandemic ended it. It's over. Everyone can relax.

Kevin Drum
@Leisureguy
Again I'm not disagreeing with inflation being down. People voted this round on feeling the inflation (past or present), not actual inflation.
Sorry people, the average voters is NOT an economist looking at numbers.

@ReedsDad @Leisureguy

And that's the disappointing part. I was a volunteer for the Harris campaign to reach out to voters. They would complain about inflation but when I tried pointing them to the numbers that were there, they wouldn't listen. It's as if they were in a cult!

Inflation can be more painful than official statistics show - Kevin Drum

Last night I mused about the possibility that the election was really about inflation the whole time and the result has been baked into the cake all along. But that hardly seems possible. Overall inflation has been low for over a year. Food inflation is close to zero. Gasoline prices have been dropping. But there's more to it. Here are…

Kevin Drum
@Leisureguy @ReedsDad People say “inflation” when they mean “stuff is expensive”. They have no clue how it all works, but they might get a clue when prices don’t go down under Trump. I hope the media devotes just a little coverage to this when Trump doesn’t cut energy prices by 50% as he promised. When his “concept of a plan” for health care is to allow denial of coverage for preexisting conditions and lifetime caps. Cheaper for a few, disaster for many.
@Leisureguy @ReedsDad I wonder if we can overlay the graph with the M1 Money supply.

@ReedsDad Clearly this 👆

Kevin Drum had another post, based on the idea that (overall) inflation is not the problem since it's at 2.3%, close to the Fed target, but rather a few highly visible price increases:

@Strandjunker
Deep seated misogyny and racism.
"The 1619 project" by Nikole Hannah-Jones explains a lot.
@Strandjunker Because at it's core the US is a racist, white supremacist nation.
At no point in its history has there been a qualified majority voting for racial equality, even post-war when business was booming and the average Joe got a piece of the cake (which is why all talk about "economic anxiety" is hogwash).
Sure, they've voted for politicians who've had progressive policies, but not by a huge margin of votes (exceptions: FDR & LBJ who won by ~25% respectively).
It's their belief system.
@Strandjunker Because the Republican plot to transform as many Americans into idiots as possible has been a stunning success! Sad, isn’t it?
@Strandjunker Because he's entertaining. We have amused ourselves to death.
@stevenaleach @Strandjunker Many people say that, but I fail to see it. All I see is a vile fear monger who punches down.
@Strandjunker because Americans are bigots.
@Strandjunker It's baffling. I didn't let myself get my hopes up, yet it still hits just as hard. Especially knowing how many of my family members voted for him. People with veteran family members, and special needs children, and LGBTQ family members.... they voted against the needs and safety of their own family.

@Strandjunker

simple: America is a racist country

@Strandjunker Or literally any other person.

@Strandjunker Because "America" is not a rational person weighing candidates by merit.

"America" is a bunch of people who are constantly bombarded with messaging of various kinds, much of which is presupposing that immigration is bad and lgtb people are somehow, nefariously, a conspiracy against ... something.

Vague-smearing is a mainstay of fascism. Look up "cultural bolshevism".
FUD is a mainstay of conservatism (which is just fascist ideals coupled with the pretense of legality).

@Strandjunker @pitrh It’s the racism. And the sexism. Or possibly the sexism and the racism.
@Strandjunker America is a scared country, and like a frightened child is running to any promise of security. It doesn’t yet realize that it has run into the arms of a child molester.
@Strandjunker Racism. White supremacy. Misogyny. Entitlement. Greed. Tradition. Americans officially are citizens of #AMAGAta now, but the disappointing thing is that they always were, in their souls and certainly that's what the system is all about. Prayed fervently for decades that this was not true. It is. Focusing on my leftists; the rest I leave my thoughts and prayers to accompany their genocide and capitalism. Happy to be old and on the way out.
@Strandjunker
America is getting dumber. Idiocracy is here. People think that talking about Arnie's penis is more important than actually tacking the hard issues of the day.
@Strandjunker if you dive in to American history it's extremely on-brand, tbh. White supremacy is pretty much at the core of everything the country does.
@Strandjunker cause they can indulge in all their darkest fantasies and believe that maybe they’re the next one on top
@Strandjunker
I don't think it is her color. I think it is that she is a woman who is strong, fearless, assured in a country hell-bent on subjugating women and people who are "different".
