Oil companies just don't advertise like they used to.

@MostlyHarmless

Certainly not false advertising, if anything it was remarkably honest for an energy company 😲

Now they just contribute to politicians' election campaigns and then lobby them when they get elected. It's much cheaper than advertising.
@MostlyHarmless 😱😱😱

@GreenSkyOverMe @MostlyHarmless Thanks for stepping up and supplying alt text! #alttext
@GreenSkyOverMe @MostlyHarmless I wouldn't have boosted the original without it.

@MostlyHarmless

"What? That's a problem? Oops. Maybe we shouldn't say that out loud!"

@MostlyHarmless oh wow 😬 nothing left to melt
(*#alt4me pls, thx)
@MostlyHarmless how is that not the biggest class action lawsuit of all time
@MostlyHarmless I wonder if that qualifies as an admission of liability?
@MostlyHarmless #alttext4you ad by oil firm Humble boasting that "each day, Humble supplies enough energy to melt 7 million tons of glacier". The picture shows a lot of ice, probably a glacier.
@MostlyHarmless Translation: "WE SHIT ONTO YOUR CONCERNS ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING. AND THEN WE PEE ON THEM AND THEN WE PUKE ON THEM. AND THEN WE BURN YOU IDIOTS TO CREATE EVEN MORE GREENHOUSE GASSES."
@MostlyHarmless It's not like they didn't warn us.

@MostlyHarmless This sounds like some kind of threat.

"Buy our fuel or we'll use the surplus to melt the glaciers."

@MostlyHarmless "that has to be a satire piece..."

*googles*

wow...

Did a 1960s Oil Company Ad Boast How Much Glacier It Could Melt?

An oil company ad bragging how many tons of glacier they could melt seemed innocent enough in 1962, but it's a bit more sinister in the climate change era.

@MostlyHarmless A magazine advertisement spread for the Humble Oil & Refining Company with a picture of an icy arctic expanse. The headline reads "Each day Humble supplies enough energy to melt 7 million tons of glacier!" Smaller body-copy reads "This giant glacier has remained unmelted for centuries. Yet the petroleum energy Humble supplies—if converted into heat—could melt it at the rate of 80 tons each second! To meet the nation's growing needs for energy, Humble has applied science to nature's resources to become America's Leading Energy Company. Working wonders with oil through research, Humble provides energy in many forms—to help heat our homes, power our transportation, and to furnish industry with a great variety of versatile chemicals. @MostlyHarmless ā€œTo meet the nation's growing needs for energy, Humble has applied science to nature’s resourcesā€ hahahaha absolutely amazing.
@MostlyHarmless What magazine is this and what year was this issue?
