65 years old (released on this day in 1959). One of the finest albums ever committed to recording tape. Some kind of inexplicable sorcery took place in this session, that even the players hadn't planned or expected. Lightning in a bottle, etc.

@Richard_Littler I remember some Channel 4 thing in the nineties or early noughties doing the '100 best albums as voted by the public' things. As they counted down from 100 there was basically no jazz at all until suddenly, somewhere in the top 10, up pops Kind of Blue, because of course it did.
Seems jazzers can't agree on anything except for the sheer brilliance of Kind of Blue.
@Richard_Littler That is a gateway drug to Jazz. Or for a Jazz person, a gateway to Rock and Roll.
It's always around for me, and I go back to it often even though I'm not all that familiar with Jazz
@Richard_Littler This was the first jazz album I bought, in my 40s, having always listened to pop /rock or classical up to then, but wanting to try something different after learning some music theory with the wonderful UK Open University.
Kind of "blue" my mind, made me want to listen to more jazz, more Miles (later stuff not always to my taste but always interesting π). Still listen to this one regularly.
In fact, I'm going to put it on right now.
So what? π
best album ever
Sheer brilliance.
Not a bad year for jazz as a whole either. ππΊ

@Richard_Littler A unique point in time for some of the best #jazz musicians at the top of their craft with a fantastic, inspired leader.
I can listen to it over and over; it still gives me the chills. Itβs like opening a window into the incomprehensible magical beauty at the centre of the universe.
@Richard_Littler Amazing album. Flamenco Sketches is out of this world.
Also worth checking out is Kind of Bloop (https://kindofbloop.com/; seriously). It's an 8-bit tribute to Kind of Blue and more well-made than you'd immediately expect.
