Some of our bike rides over the last couple of days.
1. Collecting wood and other supplies for our continuing kitchen renovation project.
2. Taking some old metal to be recycled by a guy who lives at a nearby traveller camp.
3. Taking the old freezer to the recycling centre.
4. Picking up our grandchild from daycare.

After taking the old freezer to the recycling centre a couple of weeks ago it was the turn of our old oven today. The same 12(ish) km round trip, much of it using the same excellent smooth and direct cycle-path.

37.8 km/h. That was Tadej Pogacar's average speed for yesterday's tour stage.

I had the same average speed yesterday... But not for long. If I'd been able to keep it up for 200 km instead of just the 10 km distance between home and the start of our group ride, without a howling tail wind, and including climbing several of the Pyranees then perhaps I'd also be in France right now.

We can all dream, but I know of course that that was always way beyond my ability. Pro cycle racers are *astoundingly* strong.

Anyway, here are some photos from yesterday's 100 km ride with @twilwel and @TheoZw, which was carried out at a much more moderate and sociable average speed, including stops for lunch and other things, including visiting some mastodons.

And here are a few photos from last week. I cycled past one of the very many small war memorials in the Netherlands.

Typically, all you can see from the road is a sign which reads "Monument 1940-1945". In this case it led to a very discrete memorial to six men who died on an attack on this barn.

The action was part of Operation Amherst: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Amherst

I think it's notable that one of the brave men who died at this location in a fight to restore Dutch freedom was Syrian.

80 years ago there were Syrians fighting to help the Dutch. We can now help Syrian refugees.

Sadly, our current government does not treat refugees from Syria, or other lands, with respect.

Today I took parcels to the post office. When I can I do this with the normal town bike. It's by the door, ready to go. But sometimes I need the cargo bike for larger boxes.
If your parcel was on my bike today then you'll already have received email to tell you that the bike parts that you ordered are on their way to you.
