Seing a classic cargo bike in Jacou felt strange at first. But even if this place seems to be optimised for car traffic it also seems to have quite some long tail cargo bike density too. Most of them are a few years old if not younger. So maybe Montpellier‘s strategy to achieve 10% cycling in their modal split is working out already - not only in the city centre and also in the surrounding satellite towns that are connected via 11 radial cycle connections with additional ring connections.

So far we didn’t have the chance to cycle here ourselves - the tram connection is just too good to go otherwise - but we found a bicycle dealer that would rent nice bikes and also trailer to carry children. This will reduce our travel time to the beach from about 1,5 hours with public transport to about 45…60 minutes by bike. And I cannot wait to ride the copenhagenized cycle routes in a Mediterranean environment.
