Age 50+? Take this survey about your bike-riding (or lack thereof) in USA and contribute to research (not mine): https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/7706636/50-Cycling-Survey-Year-5. If you take Part 2 you get to evaluate various infrastructure types, what you'd do, and comfort level.

@BarbChamberlain I was unable to complete the survey at the point where I said that I live near a street where I would be terrified to drive an automobile, let alone ride a bicycle. But I encourage anyone 50+ to participate in the survey.
@BarbChamberlain They might want to rename the journal survey from "Older-Adults-Cycling-Online-Journal-Summer-2021-to-Spring-2022-copy"
@BarbChamberlain FWIW, I found this difficult to figure out as speed limits where I live are measured in km/hour. If you want to make this international, I recommend you also include metric speed limits.
@Shanmonster @BarbChamberlain 1.6x. So 20mph -> 32kph (30kph), 25mph -> 50kph, 35mph -> 56kph (55kph), 50kph -> 80kph.
@dr2chase @BarbChamberlain I have dyscalculia. Doing math in my head rarely works out to anything approximating the correct number.
@Shanmonster @BarbChamberlain I am sort of the opposite of that, and suspected that worked examples of common speeds might help.
@dr2chase @BarbChamberlain it would help if I saw them listed alongside the miles/hour in the questions.
@dr2chase @Shanmonster It isn't my survey. I should have noted intended audience is going to be people who see speed limits posted in miles per hour. International comparison would be great though!
@BarbChamberlain The survey is also for people who used to cycle but now do not, for whatever reason.
@BarbChamberlain I'm taking the survey and planning to fill out the journal part. Overall, I think cyclists are in increased danger in America in the last few years. And paint (markings on roads) is not protection. I long for buffers that truly protect cyclists and inflict some damage on cars. Also, it would be great to see bad drivers have more consequences. In 3 weeks in London, Dublin and Cork, we saw ONE minor car accident. And no drivers running red lights.
@BarbChamberlain filled it out, will attempt to journal, the one thing it did not capture is that I (former Effective Cyclist, still Confident etc) am a lot more situational than before. If there's an alternate 2-lane route that lets me avoid a 4-lane route, I'll take it. With large cargo, I am more careful. Or, rotary connected to rural road w/ shoulder, well, how large is the shoulder, first? I bike through 1-lane rotaries easily, avoid 2-lane rotaries usually.
@BarbChamberlain I am also increasingly convinced that the "treat bikes as vehicle" schtick is completely broken, especially around pedestrian safety. Bikes see well, maneuver well, are small, "I didn't see them" is a car thing. A competent cyclist should be able to avoid pedestrians 24/7 w/ hardly any effort. But education is all about calling out and using bell, NOT about (e.g.) passing behind their path, observing closing angles, adjusting speed. Not slowing down is another car thing.
@dr2chase I'm also a lot more situational than I used to be. My roundabout decisions are made on the spot based on time of day, traffic volume and other factors. I ride through a double lane roundabout if I go into my office. May take the lane, may go to the sidewalk and use the crosswalk with RRFB.
@BarbChamberlain Remind me the journaling link?
@simon_brooke I'm away from my home computer where I haven't bookmarked and it's not coming up in my search history on my phone for some reason so try emailing [email protected]. That's the contact given on the survey form. I think that's Carol Katchadoorian's email.
@BarbChamberlain Thanks! It's OK; I found the link, and have journalled three times now.

This survey is the first time I've seen acknowledgement that traffic noise itself can drive folks away from a possible bike route - this is actually an important factor for #autisticCyclists !
